Supplier Quality Engineer, Battery Responsibilities:

  1. The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will work closely with engineering team to understand product design intent and then be a major part of supplier identification and selection. Develop and institutionalize supplier selection process. Evaluate prospective suppliers for process capability based on project needs.

  2. Responsible for supplier quality management with a focus on assessing supplier production and quality control, evaluating supplier readiness and adherence to module quality plan, and supporting general mechanical assembly & manufacturing operations.

  3. Partner with engineering to define product acceptance criteria. Collaborate with suppliers in assessing, proposing and developing testing plan and metrology on project requirements.

  4. Drive Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) activities with supplier on process design for complex geometries and provide technical support in enhancing process capability and resolving technical issues.

  5. Establish quality programs and manufacturing process control plans for early detection of issues and to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability is consistently delivered.

  6. Responsible for conducting Process FMEA, PPAP, NUDD and Statistical Process Control. Knowledgeable in conducting DOEs, Line qualification, Machine Buy-off, Cycle Time & UPH studies, and Automation.

  7. Publish concise reports or plan for module yield performance, specification convergence status

  8. drive Failure analysis, Corrective action implementation plan, and yield bridge to mass production.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Material/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

  2. 5+ years working experience in lithium-ion battery cell industry. Solid knowledge on either manufacturing process design, and/or product quality management, and/or mechanical structure design, and/or chemistry system design.

  3. Hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery cell’s performance characteristics. Solid knowledge on cell electrical, reliability and safety test.

  4. Experienced in lithium-ion battery cell’s typical failure mode and its corresponding failure analysis methodology.

  5. Familiarity with cell dimensions callouts and corresponding metrology.

  6. Good communication skills, willingness of team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Material/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.

  2. 8+ years of working experience in lithium-ion battery cell industry.

  3. Familiarity with GD&T practice, tolerance analysis.

  4. Familiarity with 6-sigma methodology and tools.

  5. Familiarity with battery pack manufacturing process, dimension measurement and electrical performance testing.

  6. Familiarity with a variety type of lithium-ion battery cells’ manufacturing process and quality controls.

  7. Ownership and leadership mindset with ability to be leading toward big picture and achieving result with minimum supervision.
