Scientist (Snacks)

As the Scientist (Snacks), you will have the chance to join our APAC Application & Technical Services Team. Your main focus will be on driving technical service and application development, innovative formulation, process evaluation to support the growth in the Asia Pacific region.

The bakery and snacks categories cover a wide range of products including Bread, Cookies, Biscuits, Cereal bar, Pastry, Cakes, Donuts, Muffins, Wafer, Dry mixes, Extruded Snacks, Sheeted Snacks, Coated Nuts, Fillings, Fabricated chips, Half products, Glazes, Icings, and Toppings.

About You

We are seeking a Scientist to focus on managing the Snacks category reporting to the Senior Technical Category Manager (Bakery & Snacks) in Shanghai. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys challenges, customer interaction, and exploring new ideas and creations in the lab. Having a continuous learning attitude and growth mindset is essential for success in this position.

Working with teams in APAC and the Global Innovation Centre in Chicago is a key part of this role.

What You'll Be Doing

• Work independently and with the application team to develop snack formulas using T&L ingredients for customer-specific applications.
• Provide customers with technical support, recommendations, and prototypes from our Food & Beverage Solutions (FBS) portfolio.
• Identify development opportunities for Tate & Lyle ingredients within the customer base.
• Recommend sweeteners, starches, and fibers solutions to new and existing customers.
• Conduct pilot or commercial trials with customers as needed.
• Collaborate with various teams to align business goals with application efforts.
• Execute projects using statistical and scientific methods for technical success.
• Communicate project information and product portfolio to both internal and external customers.
• Ensure project data is stored correctly and handle day-to-day maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
• Assist in the procurement of new equipment and set up SOP for instruments.
• Prepare for customer presentations and ensure timely responses to requests.

Location

This position is based in our Shanghai office in Xuhui District.

What You'll have

• Degree in Food Science or related field
• 6-8 years of relevant experience in food application in dairy, beverages, bakeries, or snacks.
• Commitment to food and lab safety
• Proficiency in food ingredients and processing parameters, creating formulation recipes, and troubleshooting customer problems.
• Familiarity with food analytical instruments and lab equipment.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
• Knowledge or experience with food speciality ingredients is a plus.
