Overview

R&D Materials Engineer is responsible for meeting the specific needs of new alloy material roll-outs in production processes; evaluating Aluminum sheet technology, processes, or methods within the technical discipline to discover innovation and integration in manufacturing and application.

Responsibilities & QualificationsPrincipal Accountabilities
  • Possesses specialized knowledge of scientific or engineering principles, theories, and concepts in a narrow technical discipline to analyze problems, devise hypotheses, and determine the approach for conducting analyses.
  • Integrates knowledge of various disciplines to independently address problems in more complex process areas.
  • Ability to assess viability of a technology, process, or method and perform sophisticated analysis of complex data to make recommendations for the best application based on business needs.
  • Independently tackles problems of moderate complexity.
  • Expands knowledge of other technical disciplines or process areas.
  • Innovates new techniques or processes.
  • Leads projects fully competent in project management tools/principles.
  • Communicates complex technical information effectively to colleagues, suppliers, plant employees, and customers.
  • Participates in gathering customer requirements and feedback.
  • Presents technical information to peers or superiors and persuades others to try new ideas.
  • Delivers data, reports, and communications to project stakeholders.
  • Identifies and communicates best practices and methods to others.
  • Ensures safe equipment operation following safety standards.
  • Specializes in EHS concerns related to specific processes or functional areas.
  • Makes technical decisions based on data interpretation and risk assessment.
  • Considers multiple aspects in project development within the responsibility area.
QualificationsEducation
  • Master's degree or above in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience required, with expertise in metallurgy.
  • Project management experience with multiple projects.
Functional Competencies
  • Knowledge of physical metallurgy and experience in wrought metal manufacturing.
  • Broad understanding of metallurgy principles, theories, and concepts with proficiency in materials characterization techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and advanced proficiency in English.

  • Analyzes problems effectively and provides input in implementing ideas.
