ENGINE ROOM SUPERVISOR

Reports To: Maintenance Superintendent

Role Overview: The Engine Room Supervisor is responsible for demonstrating effective leadership, supervisory skills, and safety practices, ensuring that all operations and maintenance tasks within the Engine Room are conducted safely through diligent delegation and oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Management of Engine Room Equipment and Systems:
- Prepare Engine Room systems for operational readiness, including vessel utility systems.
- Initiate and oversee Engine Room operations, ensuring systems function correctly.
- Conduct shutdown procedures for Engine Room systems and utilities.
- Manage isolation and reinstatement of systems for maintenance purposes.

2) Effective Supervision and Management:
- Foster strong relationships with team members and subordinates.
- Clearly define work scopes through briefings and presentations.
- Plan and manage resources efficiently, including personnel and materials.
- Utilize communication skills to demonstrate leadership and facilitate teamwork.
- Assess subordinates objectively using a competence evaluation system.
- Recommend improvements for enhanced safety, efficiency, and profitability.
- Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities.

3) Emergency Response and Critical Situation Management:
- Identify and document developing critical situations for future analysis.
- Take proactive measures to control situations and alert external agencies as necessary.

4) Pollution Control Monitoring:
- Sample and verify that discharges from the Engine Room meet environmental standards.
- Identify and report any unplanned discharges immediately.
- Ensure proper disposal of waste and materials.

5) Emergency Preparedness:
- Demonstrate competence during emergency drills.
- Fulfill assigned emergency response roles effectively.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Experience with High Pressure Steam (65 Bar) is advantageous.
- STCW Reg.III/2 Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate (Steam and Motor endorsement preferred).
- Previous experience as Chief Engineer on VLCC preferred, with a minimum of 2 years as 1st Engineer.
- Knowledge of hydrocarbon processing and utility systems is desirable.
- Proficient in management software and maintenance management systems.
- Medically fit according to international offshore standards.

Additional Skills:
- Strong communication skills in English.
