Transforming Scientific Discovery with AI
We are on the cusp of a new frontier in which machine learning and artificial intelligence are revolutionizing scientific research. At Microsoft Research, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to drive major advances in sciences with machine learning, focusing on transformative scenarios. Through these breakthroughs, we aim to empower real-world impact on some of the most pressing problems facing society, including climate change, green energy, sustainable materials, and the discovery of new drugs.
The AI4Science team, a new global team at Microsoft Research, is dedicated to transforming scientific modeling and discovery through large-scale deep learning. We aim to advance this frontier and drive real-world impact at a global scale, requiring a combination of machine learning, engineering, and natural sciences. The team spans multiple disciplines and geographical sites in Europe, Asia, and the US.
The field of machine learning has evolved significantly, with many impactful contributions coming from larger teams collaborating closely on well-defined and challenging goals. Furthermore, AI4Science emphasizes the importance of collaboration and teamwork, requiring a researcher with expertise in machine learning and a passion for science-related problems.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent work experience in deep learning and reinforcement learning, with publications in top ML conferences, e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML.
- Passion for science-related problems, including materials science, chemistry, physics, and biology.
- Proficiency in Python and relevant ML libraries, e.g., PyTorch.
- Experience with transformer-based models, e.g., GPT, Llama.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Demonstrable capabilities in doing solid research in machine learning, evidenced by high-quality publications and/or a track record of innovation.
- Candidates must be able to collaborate effectively with other researchers, particularly those who can work across disciplinary boundaries.
