The Field Medical Affairs Manager (MAM) plays a pivotal role as a field-based representative of the Medical Affairs team, acting as a strategic liaison between CN20 Alcon and Medical Experts (ME)/Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in the fields of Ophthalmology and Optometry. Responsibilities in this role typically include:
• Cultivating interest among KOLs and healthcare professionals in Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) aligned with CN20 Alcon's product strategy, facilitating communication between prospective researchers and the company throughout the IIT process from inception to publication.
• Serving as a key interface between Medical Experts/HCPs and CN20 Alcon, providing current medical support on device-related inquiries to educate, diagnose, resolve, and escalate issues to local or regional Medical Affairs as necessary.
• Establishing and nurturing peer-to-peer scientific relationships with KOLs and decision-makers to enhance evidence generation through collaborative scientific partnerships, securing their advocacy.
• Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the evolving needs of ophthalmic surgeons and supporting medical education initiatives in alignment with CN20 Alcon's strategic objectives.
• Identifying national, regional, and local KOLs in eye care based on their medical expertise and academic standing.
• Providing timely medical support to healthcare associations to ensure a solid evidence-based understanding of CN20 Alcon products in relation to medical guidelines and health economic data.
• Ensuring informed exchanges of current medical information and data concerning CN20 Alcon products and relevant therapeutic areas with KOLs.
• Acting as a liaison for investigator requests, facilitating communication between potential researchers and CN20 Alcon regarding IITs, and leading projects from inception to publication.
• Contributing valuable insights for healthcare coverage and access decisions in Health Economics and Outcomes Research.
• Regularly gathering, analyzing, and reporting insights from scientific exchanges with eye care professionals that may influence company development plans, trial designs, and brand strategies.
• Delivering impactful presentations to eye care professionals and gathering feedback and insights.
• Functioning as the CN20 Alcon medical speaker at customer sites, congresses, symposia, and training events, providing up-to-date, data-driven scientific and clinical information on CN20 Alcon products.
• Offering non-promotional speaker training to healthcare professionals to support education about therapies developed and commercialized by CN20 Alcon.
• Supporting Medical Affairs activities and scientific sessions at regional and national congress meetings.
• Completing all required training activities, documentation, and administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Providing medical support and training to colleagues as appropriate, without substituting for functional training groups.
• Ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration and communication with all Medical Affairs functions and other departments, including Commercial, QA, Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Market Access.
• Collaborating with Medical Information and Medical Safety teams to address escalated product complaints and medical safety issues.
• Adhering to all credentialing requirements for any healthcare institution involved in the MAM's call plan, including routine background checks and compliance with facility policies.
• Upholding integrity and compliance by observing all laws, industry standards, and company policies.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO CN20 ALCON:
Education/Experience Qualifications:
• OD/MD/DO/MBBS/PhD/PharmD/Advanced Degree in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
• Fluency in English is essential, with knowledge of at least one additional international language preferred.
• Advanced understanding of eye diseases, including surgical procedures and optometry.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the ophthalmology or optometry field, with at least 2 years in the ophthalmic industry or clinical practice.
• Experience in a healthcare professional-facing role.
• Familiarity with the healthcare system, research procedures, ICH guidelines, GCP, and other ethical standards.
• Essential knowledge of clinical trial design, product development, regulatory requirements, payer landscape, and lifecycle management.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain credible relationships with Medical Experts and decision-makers.
