About the Role:

Cummins Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing integrated products that are sold into Cummins products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement solutions to complex technical problems for medium complexity components, products, systems, subsystems, or services.
  • Independently execute established workflows and systems, while developing technical or product knowledge; participate in system and process improvements.
  • Participate in basic direct personnel management, but may participate in coordinating and guiding technical personnel and/or interns.
  • Effectively promote team goals, influence within work groups, and continuously improve the skills necessary to be successful in the role.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a related field.
  • IRC1 certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Chemical Systems Accelerated Aging Testing and Analysis - Design and build laboratory equipment to simulate various aging exposures related to actual applications of active chemical components, including thermal cycling, chemical poisoning, and physical shielding.
  • Chemical System Property Description - Design and perform physical chemical property tests, such as morphology, acidity, oxidation-reduction properties, diffusion properties, impedance behavior, solubility, and chemical poisoning, to help diagnose and predict the performance and health of chemical active components.
  • Chemical or Electrochemical Performance Testing - Design tests to measure the chemical transformation, selectivity, electrical output, response to chemical and physical environments, to determine the performance, durability, or health of chemical or electrochemical active components; use analytical methods to test and interpret test data, drawing conclusions that affect hardware and control design decisions, and providing information for computational tool development.
  • Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis - Predict product functional capability relative to system, subsystem, and/or part-level requirements using and/or interpreting computational tools and methods, influencing product design decisions.
  • Product Problem Solving - Use a process to resolve product problems; identify non-random causes; implement data-driven solutions; and identify system root causes and recommend actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Product Validation and Certification Management - Develop product system validation plans based on various inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiate product requirements based on capability to guide project scope; evaluate analysis, simulation, and physical test results to verify product capability and validation requirements; evaluate traditional system solutions versus proposed system solutions' functionality, and use technical documentation to propose recommendations to support product decisions.

Education, Qualifications, and Certifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Specific positions may require a master's degree in a related field.
  • This position may require a license to comply with export control or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Early career professional with temporary student employment (internship, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) related work experience or experience working as an early career professional in a related technical field.
