Pay Band: Team Lead for Language Assessment Consultant Package

Contract Type: Fixed term contract (1 year)

Role Purpose:

• Provide effective line management and academic support for full-time Language Assessment Consultants primarily involved in delivering IELTS speaking and writing modules.

• Ensure that assessment standards meet quality benchmarks to facilitate business growth.

• Manage risks and ensure KPIs, monitoring, and evaluation targets are met to achieve British Council strategic objectives.

• Contribute to the ongoing professional development program for assessors.

Main Responsibilities:
The role entails overseeing the performance management and professional development of a team of Language Assessment Consultants in alignment with IELTS PSN requirements and British Council HR policies. The position collaborates closely with the Examiner support teams and reports directly to the Deputy National Examiner Manager.

People Management:

• Lead and manage a team of language assessors, implementing best practices in line management according to HR policies and procedures.

• Engage in a comprehensive people management development program, demonstrating required skills in daily management to meet associated KPIs.

• Foster employee relations, engagement, and well-being through regular one-on-one meetings with team members.

• Ensure all staff possess the necessary skills, knowledge, support, and training to meet business targets. Coach and develop team members to enhance their skills and manage performance effectively.

• Ensure adherence to the British Council's Performance Management and Professional Development (PMPD) framework, with timely completion of required documentation.

• Monitor and manage performance in accordance with the IELTS PSN framework through various feedback mechanisms.

• Conduct training sessions for examiners, including PSN training and standardization.

• Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new staff in collaboration with HR.

• Contribute to the professional development program through materials development, workshop delivery, and other necessary support roles.

Language Assessment:

• Conduct IELTS speaking interviews.

• Perform second marking and Enquiry on Results marking (as applicable) for the speaking module.

• Monitor Enquiry on Results markers (as applicable).

• Conduct and assess other IELTS and British Council examinations.

• Engage in additional tasks related to British Council English language and assessment services, such as consulting, item writing, or materials development.

Other Responsibilities:

• Uphold the reputation and integrity of IELTS and the British Council, adhering to the IELTS Professional Support Network and British Council policies.

• Ensure all activities comply with the British Council's policies on Safeguarding and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

• Manage information in accordance with the British Council's information management standards and local legislation.

• Undertake additional duties as assigned, including project work and duty rosters.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum/Essential:

• Proven experience in team management and providing support to team members from induction onwards.

• A minimum of 5 years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) teaching experience (ages 16 and above), with at least 1 year post-CELTA or equivalent.

• 4 years of examining experience (both modules) or 2 years of examining experience with a minimum of 600 candidates in each module.

• Satisfactory monitoring and certification history.

Desirable:

• Experience working in Asia and supporting overseas colleagues.

• Background in materials development or writing.
