About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineering Director to lead our engineering team in Shanghai, China. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing the team of engineers for Chinese local and localized products throughout all project phases from acquisition to the end of the product lifecycle.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support R&D team to achieve quality, cost, and time targets of new product development
  • Ensure successful launch of new products and mass production
  • Grow future technical experts, support education and coaching of technical staff, and analyze needs
  • Build up and continuously improve informal and systematic networking between the local entity and the head office in Lippstadt, Germany, and drive transfer of technology, processes, and know-how
  • Take care and grow network and relationship with customers
  • Represent the engineering department in customer meetings and participate in technical conversations/presentations
  • Cooperate with other functional departments to meet operating targets, such as production and process improvement, cost reduction, problem solving
  • Coordinate R&D staff capacity and support in capacity planning as well as local equipment and plan on investments
  • Secure processes and projects are in line with automotive and company standards

About You:

  • You have achieved higher technical education in engineering or relevant technology, preferred in automotive engineering with deep knowledge in product engineering and excellent capability to master new technologies
  • You have a proven record of 8+ years in an international R&D organization across different domains, thereof 4+ years leading teams
  • You have gained experience in the automotive industry and know the respective standards
  • You build trust, good working relationships, and enjoy developing people and teams through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
  • Your passion is R&D and managing complex automotive engineering, preferred electronics
  • You are able to generate trust, build alliances, and orchestrate interdisciplinary teams
  • You have excellent capability of problem-solving, strategic thinking, and project management in an international environment
  • You are an excellent communicator that is able to present ideas clearly and with conviction at all levels
  • Very good written and verbal English communication skills are mandatory, local Chinese a plus
