About the Department of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics

The Department of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics (FAM) is dedicated to providing education and research opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students in financial and actuarial fields. As a friendly and academically inspiring hub, our department is home to researchers, educators, and students specializing in financial mathematics, actuarial science, and statistics.

Our department is a well-established center for financial mathematics and actuarial science education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. We have diversified research areas focusing on financial mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, and probability. Additionally, we provide PhD degree education in these research areas.

Job Description

We are seeking an outstanding individual to join our faculty as a Professor/Associate Professor in Quantitative Finance. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and development of our department by conducting high-quality research, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, and supervising PhD students.

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in quantitative finance and publish papers in leading journals.
  • Actively pursue external research funding to support your research projects.
  • Supervise PhD students, Master, and undergraduate student projects, guiding them in their academic and professional growth.
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in English, using innovative and effective pedagogies to engage learners.
  • Contribute to the functioning of the department and school, participating in committee work and other collaborative activities.
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver lectures and tutorials in areas such as financial mathematics, quantitative finance, risk quantification, financial risk management, machine learning/AI in finance, or similar fields depending on the evolving needs of the department. They will also supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research and contribute to the university in terms of service and administration.

The workload in teaching and administration is comparable to other research-led universities. Successful candidates are also expected to apply for internal and external funding opportunities.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must hold a PhD degree from a reputable doctoral program. For early career candidates, we expect promising research and teaching potential. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor should have a strong track record in teaching and academic supervision, as well as an international research profile in their field and a successful record of research funding.

Fluency in English is essential. Experience in conducting research supported by national-level research funds, academic program design and development, and supervision of PhD student projects are desirable.
