Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Universal Brand Development and Universal Parks & Resorts Merchandise Group come together to form new Universal Products &Experiences division ORLANDO, Flaand UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (Sept. 16, Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) globally drives the expansion and elevation of NBCUniversal's iconic collection of brands, intellectual properties, characters, and stories based on the company's extensive portfolio of properties created by Universal Pictures, Illumination, DreamWorks Animation and NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. The division executes this through innovative physical and digital products, engaging retail and product experiences across our expansive global theme park destinations (for both owned and 3rdparty IP), location-based venues, e-commerce product platforms, and retailers around the world. Along with global brand strategy and creative, UP&E's three lines of business include Consumer Products, Games and Digital Platforms, as well as Theme Parks Products& Retail. UP&E is a division of Universal Parks & Resorts, part of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.
Job DescriptionYou will provide end-to-end contract and legal support to the licensing, retail and creative teams across Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) Mainland China office, and to provide legal support for the day-to-day business, compliance and company secretarial needs of the relevant Shanghai-based Universal entities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with commercial executives and licensing agencies, counsel business partners and influence decisions that have both legal and business impact.
You will report to the Legal Director based in Shanghai.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercial matters:
- Draft, negotiate and amend a high volume of contracts relating to all activities of the business, primarily outbound licensing agreements but also including marketing services agreements, promotion agreements and other forms of business contracts under the Legal Director's supervision.
- Ongoing management of all business contracts including providing necessary legal documentation support.
Compliance:
- Work with the local Compliance Specialist and broader NBCUniversal Compliance team to ensure Company's compliance with all laws and regulatory requirements in China, implement and support internal Comcast NBCUniversal corporate policies, and provide assistance and training to facilitate compliance with such laws, regulations and policies.
Corporate matters:
- Draft, negotiate and manage third-party vendor contracts relating to the day-to-day operation of the Shanghai office.
- Provide legal advice and assistance in support of corporate secretarial matters under the supervision of the Legal Director.
General:
- Provide sound and practical legal advice as required.
- Create ad-hoc contracts and legal documents as business requirements dictate.
- Assist the Legal Director, VP Legal Affairs and broader China legal team in all legal and compliance areas as required, including legal research and analysis.
- Embrace additional duties and manage special projects as needed.

QualificationsBasic Requirements:
- Professional legal qualification.
- At least three (3) years relevant legal experience either with a top law firm or MNC, ideally a multinational toy, gaming, apparel or consumer goods organisation or within an entertainment studio, media or production company in Mainland China.
- Experience in contractual, commercial and intellectual property law, with ability to advise on a range of issues, anticipating risks and possible outcomes.
- Compliance and regulatory experience preferred.
- Adaptable and able to work collaboratively and proactively, often within tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication/drafting skills (Chinese and English) with meticulous attention to detail.
- Eligibility to work in Mainland China.
- Shanghai work location preferred. Travel will be required from time to time.
