About the Role
The Purchasing Team Lead is responsible for supervising a segment of regional Buyers. This role will oversee requisition execution, ensuring requisitions are converted to sales orders and delivered to customers promptly.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities Work with the Purchasing Managers to establish a clear set of objectives for the team.
- Ensure Buyers received the necessary training, including in Rand systems, SOPs, supplier maps, commodity knowledge and market updates (pricing, lead time)
- Monitor requisition execution as the "control tower" to ensure Buyers are sourcing competitively, communicating effectively with Sales, and negotiating for the best outcomes (pricing, lead time, date codes/quality, etc.)
- Track and review overall Buyer performance within the team, including Hit Rate
- Work closely with Buyers to resolve daily operational issues and escalate matters when necessary.
- Manage team members' workloads and reassign tasks as needed to ensure efficiency.
- Monitor the team's open orders and expedite or update PO dates where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Buyers to engage suppliers in resolving PO fallouts.
- Support Buyers in regularly reviewing vendor maps for each commodity and provide training on the capabilities of new or updated sources.
- Partner closely with the Sales team to understand high-confidence requisitions and other key details to align expectations and deliver the best options/results.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of purchasing strategies and processes to ensure cost-effective procurement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma qualification
- Minimum 5 years of Buyer experience within the electronics distribution or independent distributor industry is essential
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of electronic component sourcing in the open market and established relationships with key suppliers (franchise partners, strategic sources such as IDH, manufacturers, CMs and brokers)
- Good spoken and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize task, work independently and good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage stress well.
