Job Description
MCQ is developing a Deeper Learning Program committed to authentic, project-based learning. We seek to support our students development in five core areas: effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking, self-directed learning, and global leadership. In addition, we offer a number of Advanced Placement courses to validate the academic standard of our program and build our students confidence in their abilities to complete college level coursework.
As a
History Teacher
in our program, you would be responsible for sparking our students' interest in history by helping them see that our past, present, and future are interconnected. Understanding history is empowering because when our students recognize that actions of the past effect who we are today, it helps them understand that actions and decisions we make today shape our future.
Your Core Teaching Responsibilities Would Include
- Teaching AP World History: Create curriculum that helps students develop and use the same skills, practices, and methods employed by historians: analyzing primary and secondary sources; developing historical arguments; making historical connections; and utilizing reasoning about comparison, causation, and continuity and change over time.
- Support students: to develop and share their own historical research: (papers, podcasts, videos, presentations). Students should be able to identify and select meaningful and trustworthy primary and secondary sources, integrate information from various sources to create arguments supported by evidence, and understand the importance of citing sources. They should then be able to contribute.
- Contribute: to the development of specialized history classes: like those found in university, to help students to develop a deeper understanding of specific time periods and events OR entry level courses to support students early development with historical thinking skills.
- Contribute: to interdisciplinary project development to support students abilities to make cross-curricular connections.
A Minimum Of 2 Years Of AP Teaching Experience.
A firm understanding of the AP curriculum standards, exam structure, and College Board requirements to design a Scheme of Work (SOW) for the subject.
Strong curriculum development and instructional design skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to motivate students and help them achieve academic success.
Strong preference will be given to teachers with additional experience designing and facilitating interdisciplinary, standards-aligned projects.
General Information regarding MCQ
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of the College's vision and values. They will be a supportive member of the faculty team and wider school staff and help ensure the success of Malvern College Qingdao as a leading independent, international school in China.

Teachers' Job Description
Responsible for teaching their subject to pupils aged 12 to 18.
Reporting to Head of Deeper Learning Program
Contributing to the development of the department's curriculum and resources.
Setting and marking course materials in accordance with School and departmental policies.
Consistent and effective use of appropriate strategies for teaching and classroom management.
Support Deeper Learning related activities especially Project Exhibition preparation and support.
One evening on duty for study hall per week. 2hrs.
Six to Eight Weekend Day duties in a year. 4hrs each.
Participation in extracurricular activities is essential.
Personal Specification
Bachelor or above degree in relevant subject with teaching qualification.
Minimum of 2 years relevant AP teaching experience is essential.
Experience of teaching second language speakers an advantage.
Boarding school experience is also an advantage but not essential.
Opportunities to be part of the boarding staff and middle management posts as the school develops.
Applications from single teachers or teaching couples (Location unsuitable for teachers with children aged below 16).
Willingness to become a Head, or Deputy head of a Boarding House is an advantage.
There will be opportunities to join the pastoral team and become a middle manager.
