About the Role

The candidate is responsible for researching and developing audio and acoustic algorithms for Harman Consumer Products like Soundbar, Portable Speaker, and Headphone. The candidate needs to play a leadership role to make technical roadmap and conduct advanced research in acoustic algorithm design, modelling, and help promoting promising advancements to Business Unit


Your Team

This position will report to Director, New Technology & Innovation.

What You Will Do

Conduct independent acoustic algorithm research and collaborate in an interdisciplinary fashion within NT&I team as the acoustic expert. Design and execute various audio algorithm design and acoustic simulation and validations as part of the research process, supporting NT&I process as well as Harman Consumer Audio Business Unit NPI projects. Practice new technology scouting and technical roadmap planning with an acoustic focus and maintain good communication both within the team and interfacing with functional team and Business Units. Lead team to research new acoustic component or solution to make Harman Products unique. Like signal flow design, bass enhancement, directional sound source, immersive audio, new material simulation and so on. Work with global Harman research/engineering team and external research institutes or universities for new technology innovation and applications. Combine traditional acoustic engineering with advanced DSP technology to push the acoustic performance envelope for Home Audio. Portable Audio, Headphone and IOT products. Upgrade the workforce in anticipation of future technology needs in the areas of joint system level sound optimization across HW, ME, DSP, SW; Develop and build POC prototypes and demonstrate to internal stakeholders. Work with acoustic engineers for acoustic performance optimization. Work with DSP engineer for algorithm tuning and improvement. Submit minimum of 4 technical patents in the US or Europe

What You Need

MS or above degree in EE/CS/Acoustics, PhD preferred. 7+ years of experience in algorithm design that supports large-scale consumer audio business. Algorithm expert to lead/coach the team for new experience explorations, both in traditional signal processing design and AI and data driven approaches. Proficient in acoustic theory, acoustic testing, acoustic simulation, and signal processing. Familiar with acoustic related simulation and modeling techniques. Good experience at audio product development like Soundbar, Headphone, Smart Speaker, Conference System, hearing aid etc. Good experience on audio tools usage like Klipple, Soundcheck, Comsal etc. Experience at sound tuning and Golden ears. Good leadership and team management experience.
