Job SummaryThe MS Learning Support Teacher is responsible to the MS Learning Support Coordinator and the HOD Learning Support for supporting student learning identified through the Child Study team process.The Learning Support teacher is expected to work as part of a teacher team supporting students through in-class support and pull-out programme in MS. The Learning Support teacher is expected to work closely with the other teachers, planning closely and attending collaborative planning sessions. Personal Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form taking into account ESOL community members
  • Skills in working with less able students
  • Empathy for second language acquisition
  • Skills in ICT
2. Knowledge
  • A sound understanding of contemporary inquiry-based teaching and learning theories and practice related to special education
  • A sound understanding of collaborative planning
  • A strong knowledge of differentiation strategies
  • An understanding of how students learn
3. Experience
  • Successful recent experience as a learning support teacher
  • Experience working within a MYP framework
  • Experience in working with Middle School students
4. Qualifications
  • Qualification in Special Education
  • Completed current Special Education course/s
  • Commitment to undertake additional training in Special Education as appropriate
  • Qualified teacher status

  • Extensive knowledge of diagnostic assessment strategies to analyse and identify special learning needs

  • Understands the school’s curriculum frameworks and associated subject area documents
Teaching Strategies and Techniques
  • Applies a range of diagnostic assessment strategies to identify learning needs
  • Plans programs that support the acquisition and improvement of identified learning skills
  • Implements support programs targeted at individual student’s needs
  • Provides regular formative feedback to students to improve learning
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and achievement

  • Works with WAB homeroom teachers to establish an effective program targeted at special learning needs

  • Communicates regularly with parents and families to keep them informed of student progress, overall achievement and learning support strategies

  • Maintains and promotes effective relationships with colleagues
