Job SummaryThe HS Learning Support Teacher is responsible to the HS Learning Support Coordinator and the HOD Learning Support for supporting student learning identified through the Child Study team process.The Learning Support teacher is expected to work as part of a teacher team supporting students through in-class support and pull-out programme in HS. The Learning Support teacher is expected to work closely with the other teachers, planning closely and attending collaborative planning sessions. The Learning Support teacher is expected to keep parents informed and attend parent teacher conferences, as required.The Learning Support teacher is expected to contribute to the extra curricula activities of the school and be involved in school development.More detail on the job can be found in the attached job description. Personal Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form taking into account ESOL community members
  • Skills in working with less able students
  • Empathy for second language acquisition
  • Skills in ICT
2. Knowledge
  • A sound understanding of contemporary inquiry-based teaching and learning theories and practice related to special education
  • A sound understanding of collaborative planning
  • A strong knowledge of differentiation strategies
  • An understanding of how students learn
3. Experience
  • Successful recent experience as a learning support teacher
  • Experience working within a MYP/IB DP framework
  • Experience in working with High School students
4. Qualifications
  • Qualification in Special Education
  • Completed current Special Education course/s
  • Commitment to undertake additional training in Special Education as appropriate
  • Qualified teacher status

  • Keeps abreast of recent research, methodology, and issues in special needs education
  • Extensive knowledge of diagnostic assessment strategies to analyse and identify special learning needs

  • Applies a range of diagnostic assessment strategies to identify learning needs
  • Plans programs that support the acquisition and improvement of identified learning skills

  • Provides regular formative feedback to students to improve learning
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and achievement

  • Maintains and promotes effective relationships with colleagues

  • Comments on proposed modifications to and development of the school's policies and programs

  • Actively supports after school activities as negotiated
  • Shares in playground/duties outside the classroom and undertakes supervision duties
