Purpose/Objective:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for module requirements and mechanical design at a complex module level, as well as leading module integration test, and documentation during all new product development phases.


Area of Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for MRS (Module Requirements Specification) to meet SRS (System Requirements Specification) and ensure the traceability. Instruct others on MRS definition;
  • Break down Mechanical design of in system/module level into low level tasks and responsible for tracking in DM/VPM, especially for motion control system and other critical modules.
  •   Mechanical design, development, qualification at a complex module level independently in line with the company new product development process and mechanical engineering statement of work;
  •   Be responsible for 3D modelling, 2D engineering drawing, BOMs, mock-ups, tooling, testing as required per project assigned, maintain accurate CAD data and documents by using the PDM system;
  •   Be responsible for leading module Integration test. Develop test plan and report. Analyze the test results and optimize the design as needed, analyze and solve the problems using standard tools;
  •   Cross-function interface to sourcing, operations, quality, and service team to ensure the design output meet DFX (design for manufacture/assembly/testing/cost) and quality goals, as well as external interface to supplier and customers;
  •   Lead module level DFR (design for reliability) activities such as DFMEA, Design Margin Analysis, Technical Design Review, etc.
  •   Coaching junior colleagues in design work.
  •   Confirm FTO (Free to Operate) report in new product development projects;
  •   Act in accordance with project needs and Leica SOP requirement. On time deliver task assigned.

Person Specification：

  •   Strong knowledge of material, surface treatment and related manufacturing process;
  •   Excellent mechanical design skill in plastic, sheet metal, machining, or casting parts;
  •   Proficient 3D software design skill in SolidWorks;
  •   Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and mature experience of tolerance analysis;
  •   Strong skill in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), design of Experiment (DoE) and how to apply it to designs to solve complex problems;
  •   Good sense and experience of DFX (design for manufacture/assembly/testing/cost);
  •   Good knowledge of Medical Device regulatory requirements and safety standards for product development;
  •   Capability in developing test plan and test case, designing test fixture, analyzing the failure root cause, and giving test report;
  •   Good patent research skill;
  •   Good English in verbal and written;
  •   Good systematic thinking;
  •   Good team collaboration;
  •   Self-motivated;
  •   Act initiatively and proactively;
  •   Sense of urgency to drive result and moving project forward;
  •   Good communication skill. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus;

Masterâs degree or above. Mechanical engineering or equivalent education.


Experience

6+ years above experience of mechanical design including plastic, sheet metal, machining, die casting and so on;
Working experience in Medical Device is preferred;
1+ years of coaching or leading experience;
Global collaboration experience.
