The Role

Rystad Energy seeks an enthusiastic data analyst to join our Renewables & Power Analyst Team in our Shanghai office. We are constantly improving and expanding our products within the renewables & power domain, and this new role will be an integral piece of this ongoing development. The foundation of our products is a high volume of factual data combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools used to model market pricing mechanisms. This role will be focused on the collection and analysis of data relating to markets in Greater China.

Key responsibilities/tasks

  • Develop, maintain and optimize the collection and cleaning of power data (from sources such as the EIA or ISOs), using web crawlers where appropriate
  • Create and maintain Power BI dashboards for internal and external analysis
  • Work closely with our local Renewables and Power team to understand and support our clients' data needs
  • Ensure data integrity and analyse the data with statistical methods
  • Use internal and external data to develop models and simulators of physical and economic systems for use in internal products (e.g. long-term pricing & power mix)
  • Contribute to the continued development of some of Rystad Energy's Cube products
  • Communicate results internally and support our external customers; translate client's strategic thinking into actionable goals together with Product Managers and Analysts

Requirements, Experience & Skills

We are looking for a motivated candidate with a solid academic track record, an analytical mindset and software development skills to strengthen our capacity within in-house modeling. This job posting is for a junior position, so extensive experience is not necessary.

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin.
  • University degree (Master or Bachelor) in engineering, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar
  • 0-2 years of professional experience
  • Experience of programming in Python, or a similar language for modelling and/or web crawlers
  • An interest in taking ownership for and delivering value through data analytics and modelling
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Proactive, open-minded and creative
  • Energy sector knowledge and understanding would be advantageous
  • Experience with using SQL and PowerBI would be advantageous
