Job Overview

The Cost Estimation Engineer plays a crucial role in calculating and delivering accurate cost information to various internal stakeholders, including Acquisition Managers, Program Managers, Finance Controllers, Sales Teams, and Buyers, to facilitate business acquisition and program development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently assess the costs of purchased components (including piece and tooling costs) based on design specifications such as EBOM, 3D models, and 2D drawings.
  • Evaluate in-house production costs by analyzing plant efficiency and relevant cost rates.
  • Develop a Cost Bill of Materials (CBOM) with a thorough risk and opportunity assessment during both acquisition and program phases to improve competitiveness and profitability.
  • Set cost targets for sourced components and assist in supplier negotiations as needed.
  • Conduct make-or-buy analyses, evaluate Engineering Change Requests (ECR) costs, and engage in Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives.
  • Perform supplier tooling audits post-Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), focusing on identifying the true cost of tooling through tangible evidence and expertise.
  • Establish and update new databases for cost management.
  • Develop new cost models and update existing ones.
  • Participate in special costing projects as required.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Management Standards.
  • Undertake additional tasks as necessary.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in stamping tooling design or process planning within the automotive sector, with a solid understanding of tooling cost structures and market dynamics.
  • Proficient in various tooling types, including manual dies, transfer dies, and progressive dies, with the ability to analyze stamping processes and tooling configurations based on 3D/2D drawings according to diverse business needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a keen business acumen.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • High sensitivity to numerical data and proficiency in processing large datasets using Excel.
  • Basic proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience in costing or in the automotive seating industry.
