ENGINE ROOM SUPERVISOR

Reports To: Maintenance Superintendent

Role Overview: The Engine Room Supervisor is tasked with demonstrating strong leadership, supervisory skills, and a commitment to safety. This role ensures that all operations and maintenance activities within the Engine Room are executed safely through effective delegation and oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Operation and Maintenance of Engine Room Equipment:
- Prepare Engine Room systems for startup, including utility systems.
- Start and monitor Engine Room operations and systems.
- Safely shut down Engine Room systems when necessary.
- Isolate equipment for maintenance while ensuring safety protocols are followed.

2) Leadership and Supervision:
- Foster effective relationships with team members.
- Clearly define the scope of work through briefings and discussions.
- Efficiently manage resources including personnel and materials.
- Exhibit strong communication skills to lead and motivate the team.
- Conduct objective assessments of team members' competencies.
- Recommend improvements for enhanced safety and efficiency.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks are documented accurately.

3) Emergency Management:
- Identify and document critical situations such as operational failures or emergencies.
- Take proactive measures to control and mitigate risks.
- Notify external agencies as required.

4) Pollution Control Monitoring:
- Ensure that discharges from the Engine Room comply with environmental regulations.
- Identify and address unplanned discharges promptly.
- Manage waste disposal in accordance with established procedures.

5) Emergency Response Preparedness:
- Demonstrate competence during emergency drills.
- Fulfill assigned emergency response roles effectively.

Qualifications:

- Experience with High-Pressure Steam systems is advantageous.
- STCW Reg. III/2 Chief Engineer Unlimited Certificate is required (Steam and Motor endorsement preferred).
- Prior experience as Chief Engineer on VLCC is preferred, with a minimum of 2 years as 1st Engineer.
- Familiarity with hydrocarbon processing and utility systems is desirable.
- Proficient in management software and maintenance management systems.
- Must meet international medical fitness standards.

Additional Skills:

- Strong communication skills in English are essential.
