About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Battery Materials Development Engineer to join our team at ExxonMobil. As a key member of our lithium team, you will be responsible for supporting the commercialization of our lithium products by applying your expertise in battery materials development, including cathode making and testing.

Your primary focus will be on staying abreast of new battery chemistry developments, anticipating upcoming trends, and translating them into new, value-added features for our products. You will work closely with our R&D and Sales and Marketing teams, as well as externally with customers, battery companies, OEMs, and academia.

This is a senior/mid-career technical position, and you will be expected to have a strong understanding of cathode materials and their electrochemical performance. You will also be responsible for conducting laboratory studies to evaluate the performance of our lithium products, developing property-process-performance relationship models, and engaging with customers at a technical level.

In addition to your technical expertise, you will be responsible for guiding our R&D efforts towards developing new, improved products based on laboratory studies and external insights. You will also engage with the external community in the field of battery materials science and identify and develop the necessary tools and capabilities for your role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory studies to evaluate the performance of our lithium products
  • Develop property-process-performance relationship models for different lithium products
  • Engage with customers at a technical level to understand their specifications and performance targets
  • Guide R&D efforts towards developing new, improved products
  • Engage with the external community in the field of battery materials science

Requirements:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or Chemical Engineering
  • +5 years of experience in the development and testing of cathode materials
  • Strong understanding of cathode materials and their electrochemical performance
  • Experience in laboratory studies, data analysis, and statistical data analysis
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders
