About the Role:

The EHS Assistant Manager will be responsible for partnering with the DC Operations teams in Suzhou to execute company health and safety policies and ensure compliance to all applicable global, regional, and local regulations. The successful candidate will promote continuous improvement initiatives to achieve global H&S targets and reduce potential safety and occupational health/ergonomic risks in DC daily operation to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our employees and associates.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute all written safety programs and policies as per global IMS standard and local regulations, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  2. Establish and maintain all records and documentation in compliance with local government and ISO standards, guaranteeing accuracy, completeness, and accessibility.
  3. Conduct risk assessments and site inspections, engaging with associate staff to identify and mitigate hazards, ensuring training, auditing, and scoring methods are accurate, consistent, and compliant.
  4. Develop local training matrices and content, facilitating or delivering required health and safety orientation, specific safety training, and awareness sessions for all employees.
  5. Organize and lead regular safety committee meetings and management review meetings, fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement.
  6. Assist in capturing, analyzing, and reacting to safety metrics/reviews and incident/near-miss trends to discover patterns and areas where safety risks are highest.
  7. Support the development and implementation of required plans and site workplace operating procedures, ensuring adherence to company policies and industry standards.
  8. Keep site operations teams informed of the latest health and safety regulations, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance.
  9. Ensure all health and safety incidents and accidents are reported within stipulated timeframes, leading accident investigations, and performing root cause analysis for all injuries and near misses.
  10. Leverage operational resources to lead continual improvement initiatives in reducing risk in processes and ensuring a safe and healthful working environment for all employees.
  11. Ensure vendors, contractors, and third-party employees comply with global and local H&S standards, fostering a culture of accountability and responsibility.
  12. Respond to all work-related injury and illness emergencies in offices, providing timely and effective support to affected employees.
  13. Plan and implement required healthcare programs for all office employees, including but not limited to health lectures, annual health check-ups, and other initiatives.
  14. Participate as site representative in global H&S programs and initiatives, sharing best practices and promoting a culture of safety excellence.
  15. Other duties and tasks as assigned to support the organization in achieving its goals and objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of safety, environmental, and occupational health/ergonomic standards and regulatory requirements that impact operations.
  2. Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, including associate staff, management, and external partners.
  4. Ability to spend time at the site, seeking input from workplace and operation teams, and head of the site on health and safety program improvement opportunities.
  5. Open communication on status of progress and resolution against these suggestions, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  6. Experience interacting with cross-functional teams to drive collaboration and achieve shared goals.
  7. Strong coordination, organizational, and communication skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
  8. Flexibility regarding shifts to accommodate changing operational needs and requirements.

Requisite Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree or above in Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  2. Experience implementing ISO and system and/or 5S/lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment, with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
  3. Distribution Center or Manufacturing EHS experience with a mix of contract and temporary employees at a site of at least 100 people, preferred.
  4. Certified Safety Engineer and/or ISO // systems internal or external auditor, preferred.
