Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and self-sufficient professional to join our dynamic team in the role of Environmental & Social Advisory Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate environmental and social advisory services for lenders and financial investors, including conducting gap analyses, due diligence, and independent monitoring.
  • Travel to project sites to assess environmental, health, safety, and social impacts, engaging with key stakeholders to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Mentor junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Contribute to business development efforts through proposals, presentations, and marketing initiatives.
  • Represent Arup at external meetings, actively participating in discussions with clients and partners.
  • Influence sustainability practices in infrastructure and services through innovative thought leadership.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues across the organization.
  • Work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong commitment to sustainable infrastructure design and delivery, with at least five years of relevant experience in managing environmental and social risks in internationally financed projects.
  • A degree or advanced qualification in environmental science, social science, health and safety, or sustainability.
  • Experience applying international financial institution (IFI) environmental and social risk management frameworks to projects in developing countries.
  • Background in major transport, renewable energy, or power infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • A recognized professional qualification or advanced application for one.
  • A passion for sustainability and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional advantages include:

  • Experience working on-site with contractors to implement compliance solutions for lenders' environmental and social frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience developing and managing environmental and social monitoring systems for complex projects.
  • Professional experience in construction EHS site supervision in regions with less stringent regulatory environments.
  • Experience supervising junior staff.
  • Ability to apply systems thinking to sustainability challenges in infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
