Job Title: Data Engineer - Database Specialist

The Data Engineer - Database Specialist will work alongside the Product Manager and Data Analyst in the team to design, develop, and implement databases, data pipelines, and data warehouses. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the Product Manager on requirements and design, and deliver creative and innovative projects with good quality and productivity.
  • Responsible for big data platform stabilization, performance, and scalability, using various tools related to batch and real-time processing.
  • Develop all areas of Middle-Tier and Back-end system programming, especially DB development, designing, and coding, testing, and troubleshooting, supporting.
  • Develop ETL processes to load data from various applications with good data quality.
  • Follow data best-practice software design, development, and change management disciplines to ensure robustness, scalability, security, and fit-for-purpose applications.
  • Monitor and tune databases to ensure high performance and availability for strict business tolerance.
  • Coordinate end-to-end processes to ensure each dataset is delivered per schedule.

Qualifications:

Must-haves:

  • Extensive years of experience in data areas, at least 3+ years of development experience with big data tools, for both batch processing and real-time strong database knowledge, preferably in MySQL, and have strong experience in Data Warehouse design and development, methodologies, tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Advanced experience on data modeling or database design with appropriate structure and distribution performance tuning complex queries, procedures, and indexing strategies.
  • Familiar with data movement techniques and best practices to handle large volumes of data.
  • Familiar with database disaster recovery and database high availability deployment.
  • Experienced in programming languages, such as Python or English, and good communication skills.

Good-to-haves:

  • Proficient experience in building large-scale Spark batch applications and Streaming processing.
  • Experience with Ali, Azure, and other cloud environments.
  • Working knowledge on any ETL tools is preferable.
  • Knowledge about CDP is a plus.
  • Experience from working close to business/marketing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of non-relational DBMS technologies (Key-value stores, object databases, etc.) is a plus.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time permanent position, starting as soon as possible according to agreement. The role is an on-site position, based in our office in Shanghai, China.
