We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our growing team as a Senior Commissioning Editor to join our Conference Series team based in Beijing.

What will you be doing?
As a Senior Commissioning Editor, you'll play a pivotal role in expanding the reach and profitability of IOP Publishing's conference proceedings journals. You'll lead the acquisition and management of new volumes, nurture relationships with existing clients, and shape strategies that drive the programme's long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

• Build and sustain relationships with new conference organisers to secure publishing agreements.
• Evaluate incoming quotation requests and assess their suitability.
• Map the scientific conference landscape across IOP Publishing's disciplines, with a focus on identifying trends and opportunities in China.
• Maintain a strategic pipeline of target conferences aligned with business objectives.
• Cultivate a strong network of organisers and decision-makers in the conference space.
• Promote IOP Publishing's proceedings services through in-person meetings and remote outreach.
• Negotiate contract terms within established guidelines.

Client Retention & Relationship Management

• Gain in-depth knowledge of the existing proceedings customer base.
• Reconnect with previous clients and re-establish partnerships.
• Manage ongoing relationships to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.
• Enhance commissioning strategies and service delivery to increase market share.

Project Oversight

• Collaborate with the Conference Series Operations team to ensure timely publication of proceedings volumes.
• Provide guidance on manuscript scope decisions during submission, when needed.
• Address and resolve escalated customer queries with professionalism and efficiency.

About you:

• Degree educated or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Previous Experience

• Relevant experience in STM publishing with an understanding of commercial pressures;
• Proven track record of commissioning content;
• Good understanding of publishing finance;
• Ability to proactively identify and prioritise business opportunities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Outstanding communication and networking skills to work effectively with conference organisers, authors, editors and partners as well as internal stakeholders;
• Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Strong working knowledge of MS Excel;
• Willingness to travel regularly to conferences and other meetings.

• Annual leave: 20 working days per year, increasing by 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 25 days per annum;
