Job Title: Director of Business Development (Education Sector) - China

Location: Shanghai or Beijing, China

Reports to: Regional Vice President, North Asia


About the Opportunity

Our client is a prominent leader in the international education and K-12 online learning space. They are seeking a senior, strategic leader to fill the critical role of Director of Business Development for China.

This executive will be responsible for defining the strategic direction, leading a high-performing team, and driving all business development efforts across the region. The core mission is to align regional objectives with ambitious revenue goals, ensuring operational excellence and an expansion of the company's market presence by capturing new business opportunities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Market Expansion:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for the Chinese market to achieve revenue and market share growth targets.
    • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities, analyzing market trends to expand the company's footprint.
  • Partner & Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain long-term, high-level relationships with key clients, strategic partners, and specifically partner schools.
    • Lead complex negotiations for major contracts and partnerships, including agreements on academic programs, marketing initiatives, and student registrations.
    • Oversee and coordinate all reseller and agent activities, providing the necessary training and support to ensure their success and alignment with brand standards.
  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead, coach, and mentor the regional business development team, fostering a high-performance culture.
    • Oversee all regional team performance, providing strategic guidance and regular coaching.
  • Sales & Operational Excellence:
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to set and achieve ambitious quarterly and annual sales targets.
    • Actively support the sales team in lead generation and closing major deals.
    • Maintain a high-quality CRM pipeline for accurate sales forecasting and reporting to senior management.
    • Manage the region's sales budget, providing regular updates, analysis, and forecasts.
    • Conduct compelling virtual and in-person informational sessions for students and parents.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with product, marketing, and operations teams to align strategies, improve service offerings, and address any areas for improvement.
    • Engage in community-building activities and monitor competitor activities to adjust strategies proactively.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree or a degree from a US university is highly preferred.
  • Fluent in Mandarin (native or near-native) and professional proficiency in English.
  • Must be currently residing in China (Shanghai or Beijing).
  • Crucial Requirement: Extensive, proven experience in a senior business development or sales leadership role with a deep, specialized knowledge of the online K-12 education sector.
  • Must have strong knowledge of international curriculum models (e.g., IB, A-Levels, AP) and the global university admissions process.
  • A demonstrable track record of creating and executing strategies that drive significant revenue and market growth in China.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience in team management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and advanced sales forecasting techniques.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing sales budgets and reporting to senior leadership.
