Environmental Compliance Engineer

• This role is for a contractor position and will be processed through a third-party Managed Service Provider. This is not a full time employment position at GoPro.***

Location: Shenzhen, China (Flexible).
This role offers the flexibility to work from home, within proximity to an office location.

The Role
On this team you will be responsible for ensuring environmental, Conflict Minerals and regulatory compliance for electrical and accessory programs (including softgoods) and sustaining activities within GoPro's portfolio of products. You will have experience with worldwide Environmental Regulations: Global RoHS, EU POPs, Global REACH, WEEE,TSCA, Prop65…etc.. You will have exposure to concepts of wireless radio technology including Bluetooth and WiFi compliance. You will engage with a diverse cross-functional team supporting the innovation of consumer products and work closely with the hardware engineering team to drive compliance testing and verification. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within a fast paced and open collaborative environment.

What You Will Do

• Coordinate with development teams, suppliers, and third-party vendors to ensure compliance with global environmental regulations (e.g., Global RoHS, EU POPs, Global REACH, Prop 65, China GB/ODS/GHS, PFAS, TSCA, CEPA, WEEE, Canada Federal Plastics Registry and other EPR programs).
• Maintain regulatory trackers (e.g., REACH, Prop 65) to support packaging and marketing material compliance.
• Support engineering teams with global regulatory testing and documentation for product certification and environmental compliance.
• Collaborate with Sourcing and Supply Chain to manage Conflict Minerals (CMRT) surveys and PFAS-free material sourcing.
• Research and monitor evolving environmental regulations to ensure GoPro's product lineup remains compliant, including Country of Origin marking.
• Act as a liaison between expert regulatory engineers, in-house legal counsel, documentation specialists and sales to provide necessary compliance documents for regulatory shipping and distributor compliance purposes.
• Address distributor registration requests for cameras/batteries and requests for compliance documentation from foreign governments' customs agents.

Skills We're Excited About

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or similar preferred
• Minimum of 5 year of global regulatory and environmental compliance experience, ideally in consumer electronics.
• Prior knowledge/experience with EU ROHS, EU POPs, REACH, Prop 65, China GB, WEEE, TSCA and Packaging EPR, FCC/CE wireless certification, and environmental platforms such as Assent or Sourcing Intelligence.
• Ability to work independently; self-motivated with ability to drive projects, highly detail oriented and organized.
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance demonstration methods.
• Must be able to write and edit technical documents clearly and concisely in English
• Strong persuasion and negotiation skills, including conflict resolution skills
