We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of RBS Tech Centre Lead
Business: Wealth & Personal Banking IT
Principal responsibilities
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (, for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
• Build and deliver effective RB&S solutions to our business partners in new ways of working
• Support business strategy and new feature developments on RB&S domain
• Leading teams (approx. 725 FTE) using agile methodologies, utilising a DevOps approach to ensure each outcome is delivered within a CICD Framework.
• As the senior leader in XiAn, will represent and lead overall XiAn WPB IT teams in XiAn Technology Center, and provide on-the-ground leadership for the RB&S teams in the Guagnzou & XiAn Technology Centers.
• Provide support for WPB IT Global initiatives such as the Leadership Development Program and DevOps Mode 2 Catalyst development and rollout
• Setting key metrics to track planned against actuals and productivity versus quality measures
• Shorter Issue resolution of all RB&S outages and issues
• Application performance reporting and monthly metrics
• Proactive measures to keep systems updated
• Coordinate with Value Stream and Sub Value Stream Tech Leads to provide insight on pre-existing solutions.
• Promote re-use of readily built platform solutions and global components.
• Manage end to end Engineering delivery of underlying technology capabilities for WPB Technology
• Works closely with RB&S Technology CIOs, COOs and VS Tech Leads
• Responsible for everyday performance management for all functional reports
• Provide leadership and accountability across a globally dispersed population of engineers embedded in a variety of agile teams.
• Establish and develop strong technical leadership and relationships with architecture and platform functions to influence and agree approaches to tooling and other design principles.
• Ownership and accountability for the design and definition of the RB&S Engineering practice and Strategy and the Standards and Governance that underpins these principles.
• Working with Value Stream Leads and WPB Technology leadership, providing technical leadership in driving transformational change and innovation across the Engineering landscape
• Represent RB&S Engineering community across the broader WPB and Technology community in relation to Engineering development, delivery and standards.
• Define, develop and practically implement state-of-the-art strategies to solving complex and ambiguous problems using modern set of technology platforms across multiple countries.
• Build a great engineering team that delivers excellent results to difficult problems across multiple functions and geographies.
• Design, develop and implement state-of-the-art approaches to solving complex and ambiguous problems using modern set of technology platforms, delivery disciplines and devops mindset.
• Global implementation and coordination of WPB Retail initiatives, working with global and regional and business / service lines leads / Technology functions leads to provide optimised global services adjusted to address regional demand.
• Manage the annual budget spread between designing and developing new services (Change The Bank) as well as managing and supporting existing services (Run the Bank).
Stakeholders/Customers
• Contribute to stakeholder / customer on program planning and roadmap strategy
• Have a strong understanding of the business domain and engage with the business on roadmap planning and lead its execution
• Drive transition of global roles and program ownership within HTI
• Elevate the engagement maturity and drive increased customer satisfaction on a year-on-year basis
• Actively manage AMBER/RED projects and ensure relevant actions to bring them to GREEN are undertaken
• To manage effectively in a matrix organization across diverse stakeholders and geographies
• To deliver a set of globally integrated technology services supporting a diverse set of business and functional needs
• ‘Joining up’ RB&S engineering community across WPB’s language, cultural, systems and legislative boundaries.
• To deal with a range of complex issues with conflicting and changing priorities
• To manage the balance between effective execution of day-to-day operations and services, whilst driving a substantial transformation agenda
• To achieve the above whilst effectively ensuring that risk is well managed.
• To respond to constantly increasing regulatory demands within existing capability and capacity constraints
• To stay abreast of external developments in global regulation, market trends and competitor activity
• To challenge the status quo with peers across Technology leadership teams, as well as counterparts across VS
• To capture, leverage and promote best practice methodologies and tools across WPB, based on lessons learned across WPB teams globally and on standards established by Global IT horizontals (, Design and Application Development & Maintenance, IT Security, IT Risk, IT COO)

• Maintains oversight of BRCM compliance across all programs

• Clearly understands the Group Strategy and translates it into immediate business/function
• Defines a clear strategy for the unit and drives its implementation with short and long term plan of action
• Anticipates future business needs based on market trends and proactively provides inputs to business to leveraging upcoming opportunities or meet new challenges

• In depth experience of Retail Banking - Unsecured/Secured Lending, FX & Payments, Wealth; Contextual Banking
• Outstanding Technology leader experienced in driving strategic change in a matrix environment.
• Strong background in transformation, portfolio management, risk, good judgment, process and delivery focused.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder, and people management skills, able to navigate across structures in complex business organisations.
• Proven ability to work across multi-disciplinary and diverse work environments.
• Leading and directing executive and non-executive work groups and effecting change through people in a large matrix organization
• Strong commercial orientation, track record of balancing risks versus rewards and maximizing the cost effectiveness and profitability for the business. Preferably having managed an international P&L
• An entrepreneurial drive, with the ability to deconstruct and solve problems, to investigate drivers and “root causes” and drive business action planning to deliver solutions.
• Experience of leading teams in agile at-scale methods using DevOps tools and process
• Managing operational functions, directing process reengineering and efficiency exercises
• Effective communication, influencing and negotiation and strong stakeholder management skills at all levels and across diverse, global teams and key stakeholders across WPB Tech and the wider HSBC.
• Successful experience developing and retaining critical talent.
• Keen understanding of products, services, and underlying processes to fulfill.
• Deep and wide subject matter expertise of exceptional ability to lead diverse teams across global functions, with strong people leadership, teamwork, gathering information and analyzing, judgment and decision making, communication competencies.
• Respectful of different cultures, working with colleagues from across all 5 regions (North America, LATAM, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe)
• Ability to apply risk assessment and management principles and processes and find ways of solving or pre-empting issues
