Who You'll Work With

The Electronics/Mechanical Packaging Design Engineer plays a critical role in the Electronics Hardware team, focusing on the mechanical design aspects of power and control electronic products used in locomotives and surface mining trucks.


How You'll Make an Impact

Joining the Electronics team means collaborating with a diverse group to integrate complex circuit card assemblies, discrete components, and interconnect devices into a mechanical enclosure design that meets project requirements. Key responsibilities include thermal analysis, stress analysis, validation testing, and manufacturing support.


What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in designing mechanical packaging for electronic assemblies
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX CAD / Unigraphics
  • Experience with simulation tools for stress and thermal analyses
  • Knowledge of integrating different types of printed circuit boards into mechanical assemblies
  • Familiarity with electrical connectors and interconnect methodologies
  • Willingness to travel occasionally

A Day in Your Role
  • Collaborate with electrical and system engineers on designing complex electronic assemblies
  • Optimize electronic enclosures for performance and cost
  • Research and select appropriate connector devices
  • Apply industry best practices for ruggedized electronics
  • Conduct detailed thermal simulations and finite element modeling
  • Prepare design documentation and conduct technical reviews
  • Lead validation and qualification processes for new products
  • Resolve technical challenges creatively
