Riot Engineers possess in-depth expertise in specific technical domains but also appreciate the opportunity to work across various broader domains. As a Software Engineer, you'll not only delve into projects focusing on team cohesion and cross-team objectives but also provide your fellow engineers with a clear example of exceptional engineering.

As a Senior Software Engineer, Services, you will report to the Engineering Manager of an early-stage product team. Your key responsibilities will include overseeing the backend for a globally scalable suite of services, integrating with Riot's standard platforms, developing new platforms, managing infrastructure and compliance requirements, and ensuring robust monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to prevent unreliable code. Your role is pivotal in establishing a solid technical foundation for a seamless large-scale launch.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and deploy internet-scale backend services for a groundbreaking game with a global reach
  • Create and maintain a multi-service architecture to support globally scalable services
  • Implement features from in-game elements to backend service execution
  • Enhance server reliability and performance through feature development
  • Establish server infrastructure to support new gameplay features
  • Develop and maintain live services for the game
  • Utilize cloud technologies and services like AWS
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers in the team
  • Collaborate effectively with art, design, and other teams within game development
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 6 years of expertise in building large-scale backend systems or game services
  • Proven track record of developing extensive systems from scratch, including designing scalable, production-ready architecture
  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Proficiency in C++ and Golang
  • Experience with cloud computing and technologies
Desired Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role
  • Prior involvement in a globally scaled online gaming project
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Experience in mobile game development
  • Background in both client and service-side architecture
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
