ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Data Center Operations Specialist, you will oversee the management of data center operations in China while collaborating with remote technicians to support international data centers. This position allows you to leverage your expertise in IT infrastructure and customer support, employing a problem-solving approach to address business challenges and pursue improvement initiatives. You will engage in projects of varying scales, either as a contributing resource or as a lead engineer, guiding them from inception to completion. Working within a dynamic Infrastructure team based in Shanghai, you will support platforms across the APAC region, witnessing the immediate impact of your contributions in this hands-on, high-performance role.

  • Your responsibilities will include maintaining our APAC data centers, which encompasses:
    • Facilitating the installation of cabling, servers, and network equipment in data center locations, involving both on-site tasks and remote coordination with service partners.
    • Managing power and space, including monitoring and capacity planning.
    • Upholding a consistent and organized cable management system.
    • Overseeing spare parts and cabling inventory.
    • Conducting break-fix repairs on data center equipment, including hardware replacements as needed.
    • Assisting in the planning of equipment relocations or new data center setups.
    • Coordinating the transport of equipment to and from remote co-locations, including packing and shipping.
    • Maintaining comprehensive data center documentation.
  • Your working hours will involve a mix of core business hours for planning and monitoring, along with weekends and off-hours for executing physical infrastructure changes, with compensatory time off during the week.
  • Most of your work will be conducted in Shanghai, with occasional travel to other locations within the Asia Pacific region as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong attention to detail in a data center environment.
  • Ability to recognize basic components of network equipment such as SFPs, line cards, and chassis.
  • Familiarity with server components including memory, network cards, and hard drives.
  • Experience identifying port locations for various device manufacturers (Cisco, Arista, Juniper).
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems using Cat 5, Cat 6, and fiber optics.
  • Understanding of power and communications cabling standards.
  • Proficiency in configuring and utilizing cable testers for troubleshooting cabling issues.
  • Capability to perform basic installation, configuration, and troubleshooting on server operating systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is essential.
  • Understanding of change control processes.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, particularly with remote engineers from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
  • Physical capability to lift 30kg.
  • Willingness to work regularly on weekends.
