Key Responsibilities:

As a pivotal member of our team, you will be stationed in southern China, closely collaborating with our supplier network and engaging with teams from the US and UK. Your primary focus will be on the innovation of surface finishing manufacturing processes, steering CMF development at the onset of projects to mitigate risks effectively.

Your role will encompass overseeing CMF development initiatives with various material and manufacturing suppliers across diverse technologies. This includes everything from establishing initial benchmarks to producing Golden and Limit samples, all while working in tandem with our local teams. You will participate in trials and will be tasked with assessing and making critical CMF decisions on-site, taking into account the overall design presentation. Additionally, you will explore new CMF techniques by scouting suppliers during the early conceptual phases.

  • Act as the CMF liaison for multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring effective communication and analysis of results back to the team.
  • Lead CMF initiatives in the region, coordinating decoration technologies among a variety of suppliers.
  • Engage deeply in the development and management of processes related to painting, printing, and other cosmetic finishes as required.
  • Oversee the development of painting and printing processes, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and machine qualification, from initial builds to mass production.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOEs) to identify optimal setups and parameters, troubleshoot issues related to color, cosmetic quality, and durability, and finalize process solutions from prototype to production stages.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality Management (SQM) to enhance yield through thorough analysis of part quality, establishing physical and numerical limits for color and cosmetic defects.
  • Provide on-site support for evaluating and communicating color matching efforts across product and packaging components.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of parts for review within the region and manage logistics for further evaluations as necessary.
  • Make informed subjective decisions regarding manufacturing outcomes.
  • Support packaging press checks and implement color control measures to align with product color specifications.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Engineering (mechanical, chemical, materials, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a CMF designer or engineer, ideally within the consumer electronics sector, with at least 3 years in a relevant role.
  • Exhibit exceptional color acuity and the ability to achieve a perfect score on the Munsell Hue Color Test.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing and decoration processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the durability performance of materials such as plastics, paints, and soft materials like PU leather, silicone, felt, fabrics, and meshes, particularly in relation to processing requirements.
  • Solid grasp of color measurement and specification techniques.
  • Adept at technical problem-solving, including troubleshooting, proposing innovative ideas, planning and executing DOEs, and conducting data analysis.
  • Experience in developing finishing processes for mechanical components, preferably in a hands-on capacity with cosmetic enclosures.
  • Proven track record in leading advanced technology development activities that successfully implement manufacturing techniques.
  • A collaborative team player who is self-driven, results-oriented, and detail-focused.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; ability to convey abstract and concrete concepts in a second language is essential.
  • Willingness to work independently and travel frequently.
