Role Overview:

As a key member of our team, you will be positioned in southern China, collaborating closely with our supplier network and cross-functional teams located in the US and UK. Your primary responsibility will be to innovate and refine surface finishing manufacturing processes, steering CMF development at the initial stages of projects to mitigate risks effectively.

Your role will encompass managing CMF development initiatives with material and manufacturing partners across various technologies, from setting initial targets to producing Golden and Limit samples, all while working hand-in-hand with our local teams. You will participate in trials and be tasked with assessing and making critical CMF decisions on-site, ensuring alignment with the overall design vision. Additionally, you will engage in preliminary exploration and concept development, scouting suppliers for cutting-edge CMF techniques.

  • Act as the primary CMF liaison for multiple projects concurrently, adept at analyzing, synthesizing, and relaying findings to the team regularly.
  • Lead CMF initiatives in the region, coordinating decoration technologies among diverse suppliers.
  • Be intricately involved in the development and management of various processes related to painting, printing, and other cosmetic finishes as required.
  • Oversee the development of painting and printing processes, ensuring Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles are applied, and qualifying machinery and production lines from each development phase to mass production.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOEs) to identify optimal setups and parameters, troubleshoot issues related to color, aesthetics, and durability, and finalize process solutions from prototype to mass production.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality Management (SQM) to enhance yield through detailed analysis of part quality, establishing physical and numerical limits for color and cosmetic defects.
  • Provide on-site assistance for evaluating and communicating color matching efforts across product and packaging components.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of parts for regional review and manage logistics for further evaluations as necessary.
  • Exercise sound judgment in executing manufacturing results.
  • Support packaging press checks and implement color control measures to align with product color specifications.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Engineering (mechanical, chemical, materials, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a CMF designer or engineer, ideally within the consumer electronics sector, with at least 3 years in a similar role.
  • Exhibit exceptional color acuity and the ability to achieve a perfect score on the Munsell Hue Color Test.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing and decoration processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the durability performance of materials such as plastics, paints, and soft materials like PU leather, silicone, fabrics, and meshes, in relation to processing requirements.
  • Solid grasp of color measurement and specification techniques.
  • Adept at technical problem-solving, including troubleshooting, proposing innovative ideas, planning and executing DOEs, and conducting data analysis.
  • Experience in developing finishing processes for mechanical components, preferably in a hands-on capacity with cosmetic enclosures.
  • Proven track record in leading advanced technology development initiatives that successfully implement manufacturing techniques.
  • A collaborative team player who is self-driven, results-oriented, and detail-focused.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with the ability to convey abstract and concrete concepts in a second language.
  • Willingness to work independently and travel frequently.
