About the Role

Rio Tinto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Advisor China to join our team in Beijing. As a key member of our China Strategy team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key partners in China, gathering market intelligence, and developing in-house views on different partners to facilitate engagement and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a network of project partners in China and develop market intelligence on these partners to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Take responsibility as the key account manager for project partners and connect Rio Tinto internal stakeholders with these partners through introductions and site visits.
  • Support the China Study Manager in screening business opportunities with China partners for projects in early stages.
  • Be responsible for direct vendor engagement and case management from Early Contract Involvement (ECI) to award.
  • Support the Senior Manager Projects China and the projects team in negotiating with project partners towards alignment in agreements.
  • Work with Rio Tinto China teams to facilitate case-by-case problem-solving and course correction planning for RioProjects.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent.
  • Work experience in the mining industry and related engineering sectors is desirable.
  • Work experience in major project execution is desirable.
  • Minimum 6-7 years of experience in engineering and project management is preferred.
  • Technical competencies in manufacturing, designing, and engineering sectors, particularly for mining, mineral processing, and metallurgical industries.
  • Commercial acumen, energy, and integrity.
  • Internal alignment and collaboration.
  • Awareness of wider implications of decisions and business arrangements.
  • Effective solutions to minimize risks.
  • Other skills required:
    • Effective interpersonal, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
    • A self-starter with strong accountability for own workload.
    • Ability to influence others to achieve a common goal.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to work effectively and productively within a team and across different business units and commodity groups.
    • Dedication to deliver on commitments and achieve deadlines.
    • Able to work under pressure.
    • Ability to take initiative to derive value.
    • Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Chinese Mandarin.
    • Able to respond quickly and effectively to requests for information.
