Role Overview

This role provides critical support to the China R&D head to drive and enable end-to-end China portfolio strategy execution for the China R&D organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing agility, focus, and seamless coordination across functional teams, as well as providing key stakeholders' status in the China pharma ecosystem to support the strategy of pursuing and maintaining BMS China R&D with competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage functional area stakeholders to maintain governance of China portfolio strategy execution, including CPRC (China Portfolio Review Committee), China R&D portfolio review, and other portfolio review meetings with global relevant stakeholders.
  • Track China R&D performance according to both internal company goal commitment and external industry benchmark.
  • Organize China R&D key management meetings, global drug development senior leadership team visits, and other critical events.
  • Interact with headquarters key counterparts to ensure connectivity and alignment in drug development strategy, governance, execution, and other critical areas.
  • Manage and interact with external and internal cross-functional teams to build a positive image of China R&D within the company and in the China ecosystem.
  • Understand necessary commercial inputs needed to inform the end-to-end development process.

Key Competency Requirements
  • In-depth understanding of portfolio governance mechanisms.
  • Understanding of the drug development process, from early to late stage, including lifecycle management.
  • Deep knowledge of portfolio governance, including monitoring methodologies, systems, regulations/compliance, budget, and resource management, as well as site-facing engagements.
  • Knowledge of the external pharma industry environment and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, as well as independent decision-making ability.
  • Highly organized and motivated, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Passionate, accountable, and innovative critical thinker who balances risk and speed for maximum results.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to influence, inform, or guide others.
  • Results-oriented with a proven track record in building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to manage the China R&D book of work.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in both English and local language.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in innovative drug development pharma industry setting.
  • At least 8-10 years of solid expertise in project/portfolio management in the drug development process with in-depth knowledge and experience.
  • Strong understanding of drug development environment in China pharma ecosystem, including regulatory, clinical operations, and other critical areas.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to integrate critical observations in R&D business.
  • Working knowledge of all relevant functional areas of drug development, including clinical development, regulatory, BDS, clin ops, and other critical areas, as well as demonstrated ability to successfully and effectively cooperate, collaborate, and work across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to objectively assess complex situations based on limited information, make informed decisions, and take action in the face of uncertainty.
  • Ability to effectively and seamlessly multitask and prioritize across multiple business needs.
