Our Optical Communications division has transitioned from merely producing optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment to becoming a comprehensive provider of leading optical solutions across the wider communications sector. This division is divided into two primary product categories – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network category mainly includes products and solutions for optical-based communication infrastructure supporting services such as video, data, and voice communications. The enterprise network category primarily consists of optical-based communication networks marketed to businesses, government entities, and individuals for personal use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead problem-solving initiatives and provide technical expertise to ensure prompt resolution of immediate process and equipment challenges, along with advanced troubleshooting.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians, offering direction and support to maintenance staff.
  • Apply general engineering and manufacturing knowledge (understanding theories and fundamentals) to lead projects aimed at identifying root causes of issues and implementing permanent solutions.
  • Deliver disciplined project leadership across various phases of innovation for new products, processes, cost reduction, and capacity enhancement initiatives.
  • Propose and execute permanent solutions to long-term performance challenges while enhancing existing and new technologies and processes.
  • Develop and oversee specific areas of the manufacturing and/or technical roadmap. Document materials, processes, and/or equipment to safeguard and contribute to Intellectual Property advancements.
  • Utilize statistical data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) in process troubleshooting and product/process enhancement.
  • Identify, justify, and implement initiatives for cost reduction, capacity improvement, capital equipment, and other enhancements.
  • Introduce new products and technologies into the market.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of projects and implemented cost reductions using metrics such as uptime, cost, productivity, and other relevant measures.
  • Provide project leadership for various projects, relocations, modifications, alterations, or manufacturing processes.
  • Establish project plans (scope, schedule, cost estimates, project acceptance criteria, etc.) for the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Form sub-teams in collaboration with the Operating Division, plant, and management. Lead sub-teams to achieve desired outcomes. Act as an effective team member on larger, more comprehensive teams. Define receivership requirements for projects.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ensure adherence to company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements within the plant IT framework (including Policy, Procedure, SOP, and other requirements).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in a technical discipline.
  • Experience in project leadership from scope definition to implementation.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in optical passive modules, cassettes, and rack mounts. Familiarity with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLC), and couplers.
  • Knowledge of GR-326, GR-1435, GR-1209, and GR-1221 reliability test standards.
