Understanding Production

Production is where innovative design concepts are converted into tangible products. With operations in over 20 sourcing markets, we serve as the primary contact for local suppliers, ensuring that our products maintain high quality while being produced at competitive prices and sustainably.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the capacity and costing team at H&M's Shanghai office. We are seeking an Industrial Engineer (Apparel) to join us in enhancing process efficiency and productivity to fortify our supplier network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and establish our Standard Minute Value (SMV) utilizing General Sewing Data (GSD) to guarantee accurate labor costs and optimal production efficiency through manufacturing excellence.
  • Support our business growth by validating appropriate capacity with local and regional suppliers.
  • Take ownership of evaluating supplier efficiency and reviewing production processes to assist suppliers in improving their SMV and overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate regularly with business teams, external suppliers, and colleagues globally to foster business development.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in Industrial Engineering within the textile sector.
  • Strong technical expertise in SMV/GSD (GSD/GST certification is preferred).
  • Proficient in garment operation breakdown.
  • Quick and accurate in calculating SMV for products.
  • Comprehensive understanding of factory production and garment manufacturing processes for woven, knit, and undergarments.
  • Knowledgeable in garment cost structures and calculations.
  • Proficient in Excel and capable of developing or modifying tools.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities to build trust and collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.

Success Factors

A solid understanding of labor cost calculations is essential for determining SMV based on GSD knowledge at the product level. It is crucial that you possess a thorough understanding of industrial engineering principles to foster strong collaboration with our supplier network for their productivity enhancement. You should be comfortable working with suppliers as H&M's representative to conduct time studies and create a database for costing and work content analysis. Strong communication skills combined with an entrepreneurial mindset will be vital in aligning our suppliers with our business objectives.
