Role Overview
The Field Service Engineering Specialist (FSES) serves as a customer-facing extension of the Flowserve digital products and automation engineering team, including M&T. The FSES is responsible for executing a variety of engineering and service tasks at customer facilities safely. Services include utilizing FLS diagnostic capabilities for troubleshooting, analysis, inspection, and addressing compatibility issues between FLS digital products and customer control systems (DCS, SIS, PLC). A robust background in assessing instrument performance and connectivity to host control or asset management systems is essential, including familiarity with key communication protocols in the process control sector (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus, etc.). The FSES will also address electrical and mechanical aspects of products to identify, isolate, and resolve issues, preventing escalation within the customer organization. A crucial aspect of the FSES role involves training end users and guiding FLS support personnel in the correct usage of products to minimize user errors and avoid misattribution of issues to the product fleet in the field. This approach helps maintain focus for customers and prevents unnecessary distraction for key engineering resources. When legitimate issues arise, the FSES will gather relevant data and communicate it using appropriate tools (Field problem reports, CAR, etc.) with the Level 3 engineering and/or manufacturing teams to expedite problem resolution. The FSES will play a vital role in customer turnaround planning and execution, representing the highest level of field expertise on digital products.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Promote a positive safety culture to minimize injuries and maintain a secure work environment.
- Uphold ethical standards in accordance with Flowserve's code of conduct.
- Act as a key extension of the digital product and automation engineering team, serving as a frontline customer-facing member of the FLS digital product, automation, and M&T technical community.
- Educate customers on the proper installation and operation of FLS digital products to prevent misattributions of system-related issues.
- Efficiently triage FLS digital product issues to resolve problems in the field promptly. When issues cannot be resolved on-site, collaborate with regional labs and/or the global engineering team to define and implement necessary solutions.
- Support sales team initiatives as needed, including customer and sales channel training.
- Engage with the FLS digital products community to enhance local capabilities for addressing and resolving digital technical challenges by providing direct support at customer sites.
- Serve as the primary customer interface for digital products, overseeing the evaluation and troubleshooting of valves and actuation, including installation, commissioning, calibration, and tuning of FLS digital products.
- Deliver technical support and training for all digital products and related software to internal personnel, representatives, and end-users.
- Develop relationships with key customers to understand their needs and identify new ways to provide value.
- Collaborate with digital products field technicians and the engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve field issues regionally.
- Work with order fulfillment and field service managers to ensure effective support during installation and service demands.
- Travel to customer locations to troubleshoot and repair Flowserve Control Valve Business Unit products.
- Collaborate with Flowserve Sales Engineers to ensure a coordinated approach to serving end users and sales channel partners.
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation.
- Proactively identify any Flowserve equipment or services requiring technical attention.
- Travel as necessary (up to 80%).
- Complete daily Job Safety Environmental Assessments (JSEA).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- MS or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related engineering field.
- 5 to 10 years of experience as a technical problem solver with systems and networks (DCS, SIS, AMS), including integration of actuation, control valves, and instruments.
- Fluency in English communication (verbal, reading, and writing) is required.
- Strong understanding of fluid flow in process control environments, including tuning flow loops.
- Ability to explain digital and mechanical concepts and articulate value-driven recommendations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation and process control elements in a flow loop.
- Familiarity with digital communications protocols (HART, FF, Modbus) is essential.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of main DCS and related Asset Management Systems.
- Experience with FDT Frames and demonstration equipment.
- Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lead instrument engineers and technicians.
- Calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of technical designs, engineering drawings, and schematics.
- Understanding of Safety Systems and Partial Stroke Testing (PST).
- Familiarity with main valve competitors and digital positioner competitors.
- Excellent writing and documentation skills for engineering reports and other documentation.
