Associate - Indirect Tax (VAT) - Shanghai

China's Indirect Taxes, including Value-added Tax ("VAT"), Consumption Tax ("CT") and Customs Duty ("CD"), are taxes on transaction basis. Indirect tax revenue constitutes more than half of the nation's overall tax revenue.  The tax authorities, as well as Customs have stepped up measures to ensure proper administration and collection of Indirect Taxes.

The core of our service philosophy is to assist clients in the Indirect Tax compliance review to ensure meeting legal and regulatory requirements, and offer ideas in Indirect Tax cost saving and (cross-border) operating models optimization that align with the clients' overall business objectives.

• Prepare basic tax returns and refunds by referencing tax implications, opportunities, and their optimization
• Establish relationships with tax authorities and learn the local tax organizational structure, responsibilities, rights and obligations of taxpayers, tax authorities, and Deloitte
• Develops an understanding of key VAT/GST concepts, laws, regulations, court cases and rules; applies this knowledge in all written and oral deliverables
• Apply customs laws, rulings, and jurisprudence (fiscal and non-fiscal) principles and the interaction of customs and global trade (CGT) laws with non-CGT disciplines to projects
• Demonstrates compliance with Indirect Tax processes and procedures and uses Deloitte tools and technology resources to support consulting 
• Develop knowledge of current tax legislation across the Global Tax and Business Advisory function
• Collect, assimilate, and analyze data and use standard processes and tools to help surface and support solutions for solving problems in the Tax and Business Advisory business
• Apply technology knowledge to address client business challenges

• Bachelor or above degree holder in any disciplines 
• Preferably professional accounting qualification or PRC registered tax agent or lawyer 
• Minimum one or two years' Value Added Tax related work experience
• Strong analytical skill and high commitment to quality client service 
• Fast learner, with flexibility and adaptability to work in different service lines and on different industries 
• Good communication skills, self-initiation, teamwork spirit and willingness to work under pressure 
• Good written and oral communication skills in both English and Mandarin, including both technical and business writing, documentation and presentation skills 
• Proficient in computer applications 
• Willing to travel
