Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" and the "Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou". With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model of the mainland-Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavoring to nurture future-oriented, high-level and innovative talents.

In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring "Hub" and "Thrust" to substitute the conventional one characterized by "school" and "department", facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.

HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and 16 thrusts. The admission of undergraduate students begins in 2023, with the first batch of programs covering artificial intelligence, data science and big data technology and smart manufacturing engineering.

HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu hectares) and is divided into two construction phases. The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which had been officially put into use in September 2022. The design of the campus blends natural scenery with architecture, with key cutting-edge technologies for energy conservation and environmental protection adopted during the design and construction process, in a bid to establish the campus as a new benchmark of green, smart and sustainable development.

Job duties
Conduct research in the following topics at HKUST-GZ.

• CMOS image sensing circuits and systems
o Sensing element (with focus on single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD)) structure design, optimization and modelling.
o Readout and signal processing circuits such as biasing, quench and reset circuits, time-todigital converters.
o Integration of the sensing elements and the associated circuits with focus on the 3-dimensional structure (sensing elements and circuits are fabricated on different wafers, and then connected vertically through TSVs).

• Emerging applications of the sensing circuits and systems
o Light detection and ranging (LiDAR)
o Optical wireless communication (OWC)
o Biomedical imaging instruments
o Wearable sensing system

• CMOS 光传感电路和系统
o 传感元件(重点是单光子雪崩二极管(SPAD))结构设计、优化和建模。
o 读出和信号处理电路,例如偏置、淬灭和复位电路、时间数字转换器等。
o 传感元件和相关电路的集成,重点关注 3-D 结构(传感元件和电路制造在不同的晶圆上,然后通过硅通孔(TSV) 垂直连接)。

• 传感电路和系统的新兴应用
o 生物医学成像仪器
o 用于健康监测的可穿戴传感系统
o CMOS SPAD 在激光雷达 (LiDAR) 和光无线通信 (OWC) 领域的应用

任职要求
Job requirements

• For Research Intern, Students should be studying for the Bachelor's or master's degree in Microelectronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other relevant majors with a good GPA from a recognized institution. Students with the bachelor's degree or above will be provided with the position of Research Assistant.

• High motivation with research and/or industrial experience in at least one of the following fields:
o Solid background in semiconductor physics/device with the expertise in the design, simulation and modelling of optical sensors and systems
o Analog/mixed-signal integrated circuit design using CMOS technologies with tape-out experience.
o Hands-on experience of the high-impact applications related to biomedical imaging systems, wearable sensing technologies, LiDAR and OWC.
o Industry working or internship experience will be considered as an advantage.
o Relevant experience in the conference/journal publications

o 在半导体物理/器件领域有扎实的背景,使用 CMOS 工艺进行模拟/混合信号集成电路设计,并具有 tape out 经验。
o 具有生物医学成像系统、可穿戴传感技术、激光雷达和光无线通信等相关应用的实际经验。
o 相关行业的工作或实习经验将被视为优势。
o 具有在会议/期刊论文发表的相关经验。
