Duke Kunshan University (DKU) invites applications for a faculty position (Assistant Professor, SeniorLecturer, or Lecturer) teaching and coaching Chinese in the Language andCulture Center (LCC).

TheLanguage and Culture Center is responsible for offering language courses forundergraduate and graduate DKU programs, including courses in English foracademic purposes, Chinese as a second language, written and oralcommunication, and additional languages. The LCC supports interculturalcommunication among students and faculty at DKU, helping facilitate theachievement of key institution-wide goals that include the development ofstudents who can communicate lucidly and navigate successfully diverse culturesand languages. The position begins July 1, 2023.

Qualifications (Assistant Professor – tenure track)

vTerminal degree/Ph.D. in relevant field (e.g.Chinese language, East Asian Studies).

vChineselanguage teaching experience at the university level.

vSolid record of scholarship.

vStrong command of English.

Preferred

vAble to teach electivecourses related to Chinese language (e.g. Classical Chinese, history ofChinese, languages of China, Chinese in East Asia, Chinese linguistics).

vKnowledge of Classical Chinese and/or othervarieties of Chinese (e.g. Cantonese, Shanghainese, Suzhounese).

vKnowledge of additional languages, especially East Asianlanguages (e.g. Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese).

vBackground in intercultural communication.

Qualifications (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer –non-tenure track)

Required:

vGraduate degree in relevant field (e.g. Chinese language, East AsianStudies).

vChineselanguage teaching experience at the university level.

vStrong command of English.

Preferred

vKnowledge of Classical Chinese and/or othervarieties of Chinese (e.g. Cantonese, Shanghainese, Suzhounese).

vKnowledge of additional languages, especially East Asianlanguages (e.g. Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese).
