Duke Kunshan University (DKU) invites applications for the AssociateDirector of the Language and Culture Center(LCC). The Language andCulture Center is responsible for offering language courses for undergraduateand graduate DKU programs, including courses in English for academic purposes,Chinese as a second language, written and oral communication, and additionallanguages. The LCC supports intercultural communication among students andfaculty at DKU, helping facilitate the achievement of key institution-widegoals that include the development of students who can communicate lucidly andnavigate successfully diverse cultures and languages. The Associate Director ofthe LCC will assist the LCC Director in managing the LCCfaculty team and the courses offered by the LCC, and also teachin the LCC. Theposition begins July 1, 2023. This is a tenure-track position. 

Responsibilities and Duties: The duties of the AssociateDirector will include the following:

* Teach 1.5 courses per semesterwithin the LCC. This teaching assignment will normally consist of teaching one4-credit or two 2-credit courses per semester, in areas of the candidate’sexpertise, and one .5 coaching assignment in the Writing and Language Studio.

* Assist theLCC Director with the following LCC administrative tasks.

oReviewing and improving curriculum andcourses.

oHelping plan course offerings, new courses, andteaching assignments.

oAssisting with LCC faculty and staff searches.

oServing on reappointment and tenurereview committees.

oReviewing annual faculty reports.

oReviewing course evaluations.

oMentoring LCC faculty in their teaching and scholarship.

oPlanning and delivering faculty orientation and planning workshops.

oPlanning and managing the LCC budget andapproving expenditures.

oEstablishing new programs (e.g. summer programs, community-facingprograms).

Qualifications

Required:

Terminaldegree/Ph.D. in a field related to language education. Significant university-levelteaching experience, especially in languages or related fields. Administrativeexperience in higher education. Solid recordof scholarship. Strong commandof English.

Preferred

Administrativeexperience in language teaching programs. Alreadyattained associate or full professor academic rank. Universityworking experience in East Asia. Strongcommand of Chinese and/or other languages.
