Team Summary

With the increased regulatory oversight in some of the markets, Visa is keen to strengthen its Supervisory and Regulatory Risk team.

Directly reporting to the Greater China (GC) Head of Risk, the Director will advise the GC leadership team and hub & global functional leads on strategies related to complex operational, financial, legal, and regulatory risk exposures. 

What a Supervisory Regulatory and Risk Management Director does at Visa:

The key responsibility of the candidate will be to protect Visa by providing strategic risk management for the business, credit settlement risk, brand protection, supervisory & regulatory risk, fraud management and data security for Greater China, especially Mainland China. The Director will be the primary contact for managing various internal and external supervisory and regulatory compliances for Visa. Additionally, the Director will have sub-regional responsibility for championing security in the industry and maintaining the integrity of the payments ecosystem.

In this role, you are expected to:

Develop and execute a comprehensive risk plan that is consistent with local market landscape, country priorities and global risk strategy. Key activities may include executing risk management programs, leading client risk forums, promoting and supporting the adoption of Visa risk products and solutions, and serving as a trusted advisor to the GC leadership team on all risk issues. Manage Risk relationships with issuers, acquirers, digital partners, service providers, merchants, regulators and law enforcements to resolve fraud and data breach events, provide stakeholder training, respond to ad hoc queries and analytics requests, identify opportunities to advance risk management best practices, and support constructive relationships with local regulators and law enforcement agencies. Act as the primary coordinator for incident management related obligations. Partner cross-functionally to engage with government stakeholders to influence policies and regulatory outcomes, fostering sound conditions to operate across the sub-region. Coordinate Risk, Fraud, Data Security, PCIDSS related inputs, and ensure periodic reviews arising out of regulatory obligations. Respond to client enquiries on audits and supervisory risks. Ensure regulatory requests for the sub-region are addressed in a timely, error-free and consistent manner, and proactively manage multiple inquiries and coordinate deliverables to meet expectations of regulators and internal clients (for e.g., Government Engagement, Legal, Compliance, Product, Finance, China Market Open, etc).

The successful candidate must collaborate effectively with the GC Leadership Team, and other local functions including China Market Open team, Government Engagement, Legal, Compliance, Product, Corporate Relations, Client Services, Merchant Sales & Acquiring, as well as Global and Regional teams.

This complex and fast evolving ecosystem includes issuing and acquiring banks, merchants, cardholders, and service providers such as processors, device manufacturers, and payment gateways.

The GC subregion is emerging as a home for increasingly complex regulations which require high degree of reporting obligation with zero margin for error. The Director plays a key role in fulfilling those obligations, in the absence of which, there could be risk of censure by the regulators.

Projects you will be a part of:
You will part of risk and fraud, regulatory enquiries, projects, and engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders on regulatory and supervisory matters. The delivery of these initiatives will require close collaboration with senior leadership in the sub-region and with stakeholders in Regional Risk, Compliance, Controllership, Legal and Government Engagement.

The Director will also involve in Client fraud management, internal enterprise risk management, and supervisory regulatory risk management as needed.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

What you will need:
We are looking for an individual who brings breadth of experience, a curiosity about payments, is results-driven and client focused. As a candidate, you should have:
• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
• 12+ years of relevant experience in one of the following functions: Corporate/Risk Governance, Fraud
Management, Compliance, Audit, Regulatory Management, Legal or related areas
• Experience with regulatory management (direct or indirect)
• Experience in payments or banking or related segments, or alternately, good understanding of payments business and associated risks
• Understanding of current and emerging payment system, regulatory and obligations trends in GC
• Full ownership, goes beyond the minimum requirements, not a “check-the-box” mentality
• Positive, proactive, solution-oriented problem solver who gets things done within a matrix organization
• Experience in preparing, and reviewing, and delivering (concise) executive level communications
What will also help:
• Be well versed with local regulations and guidelines related to risk management for cards, networks, financial institutions, digital payments industry
• Have knowledge of regulatory and supervisory risk challenges in the (digital) payments industry
• Have excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Capable of comfortably leading meetings, delivering presentations and interact with all hierarchy levels
• Able to multi-task and pursue multiple initiatives simultaneously.
