About Yara China

In China, Yara has been present for more than 100 years, being a leading brand in many crop segments and helping farmers increase their incomes. With its headquarters in Shanghai, Yara China (YCN) closely works with in-country stakeholders – including policymakers, academia, commercial and smallholder farmers, retailers and channel partners, and NGOs to identify how the company can best support priorities around food security, farmer livelihoods, sustainability and circular economy across the food value chain.

YCN is seeking a hard-working, agile, and motivated professional who has excellent written and verbal communications skills to help support the growth of public policy, stakeholder engagement, and strategic initiatives. The person will serve as Government Relations Manager – Yara China.

Responsibilities

This role will be part of the Yara Africa & Asia (YAA) Government Relations & Public Affairs (GR/PA) team and will report to Director of Public Affairs, who is based in Beijing. GR/PA's mission is to support policymakers and other external stakeholders in their mission to achieve a nature-positive food future for their nations.

The GR Manager role will be responsible for:

  1. In line with Yara's nature-positive ambition, execute the company's China strategy and function priorities.
  2. 2Building and furthering relationships with key external stakeholders, including local governments, research institutes, NGOs, and value chain partners, to raise Yara's visibility in China, strengthen the company's licence to operate, and promote its thought leadership.
  3. Monitoring and interpreting public policy and regulatory trends in trade, agriculture, and sustainability. The successful candidate will also develop and proactively present to Yara's senior executives and external stakeholders concise and business-relevant intelligence on pertinent regulatory and governmental issues.
  4. Working closely with Yara China, regional and global teams to help develop content and messaging that focuses on food security, regenerative agriculture, climate change, and rural prosperity.
  5. Assisting with all aspects of C-level visits by global and regional Yara leaders. Responsibilities could encompass schedule planning, setting up and joining meetings with key internal and external stakeholders, development of briefing books, and logistical support.
  6. Positioning Yara as a leader and key contributor to achieving a nature-positive food future in China and globally, while promoting thought leadership through initiatives, conferences, and other activities.
  7. Assisting to build and manage partnerships with key external stakeholders.
Profile
A bachelor degree or above. 5 years of demonstrable experience of working in public office, and/or government relations in China. Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills in Chinese and English; full professional English proficiency is a must. A global mindset and local perspectives. Experience working in/with multicultural environments is a plus. Excellent attention to detail (i.e., perfectionist attributes), organizational ability, time management, and ability to prioritize competing demands and to provide quality work under short notice and tight turnaround times. Discretion, tact, personal and professional ethics, and a diplomatic demeanour are essential. A team player. Pragmatic, agile, and confirmable to work across functions and territories.
