General Summary

This role represents the first full level of specialization, where the incumbent applies expertise across multiple areas. The work is conducted within established professional standards and policies, addressing a variety of challenges that require thorough analysis of diverse data. The individual is responsible for ensuring the quality of work delivered by external suppliers, as applicable. The position may influence stakeholders outside the immediate team to achieve objectives and resolve conflicts effectively. Mistakes or failure to meet targets could adversely affect operational performance and schedules. Guidance is primarily received on unique or complex issues. The role may involve leading a project team with some support from a supervisor, or providing specialized advice. The incumbent actively seeks opportunities to build and maintain both internal and external relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Documenting, maintaining, and enhancing process implementation.
  • Offering advanced technical expertise for production or customer-related material challenges.
  • Ensuring material quality to meet cost and delivery objectives.
  • Conducting supplier visits to assess their process controls and reliability measures.
  • Providing performance data on quality and reliability to suppliers and internal management.
  • Performing supplier evaluations and risk analyses, making recommendations for supplier selection.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to enhance overall yield and material quality.
  • Identifying process issues that impact throughput or quality.
  • Determining root causes of problems and implementing both short- and long-term solutions.
  • Leading the selection process for new manufacturing equipment.
  • Assessing software and hardware upgrades as well as new equipment.
  • Establishing and implementing process control standards for equipment and products.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and distributing data to address quality concerns.
  • Utilizing quality tools and team problem-solving techniques to drive root cause analysis and improvements.
  • Engaging directly with customers to resolve systemic process issues.
  • Analyzing the feasibility of acquiring and implementing new assembly/test technologies and preparing technical reports.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong foundation in engineering principles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design processes for systems and printed circuit boards.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and SPC methodologies.
  • Expertise in materials and components used in system construction.
  • Knowledge of material science, robotics, and machine programming.
  • Understanding of product pricing and contract negotiations.
  • Proficiency in design engineering for systems and printed circuit boards.
  • Excellent skills in customer interaction, negotiation, and problem resolution.
  • Strong presentation and database management capabilities.
  • Proficient in statistical process control methods.
  • Ability to design tests, evaluate results, and recommend process improvements.
  • Competence in evaluating and troubleshooting problems.
  • Familiarity with IT platforms and programming languages.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with various internal and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and machinery.
  • Extended periods of sitting and visual concentration on detailed data may be required.
  • Frequent repetitive manual movements are necessary.

Experience and Education

  • Six to eight years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
