Health Emergency Response Specialist

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Health Emergency Response Specialist. This role will be responsible for coordinating the planning, management, and implementation of strategies and workplans required for development and maintenance of critical health systems, emergency risk management, and International Health Regulations capacities throughout the full cycle of the emergency at the country level.
Responsibilities- Work in coordination with technical focal points at the regional and headquarters levels under the guidance of the head of the WHO country office.
- Provide expert, technical guidance to national authorities in and coordinate all aspects of the WHO Health Emergencies program at the country level to enhance the national capability in preparedness and response to emerging infectious diseases, outbreaks, and health emergencies from all hazards.
- Lead the One Health and related work, liaising and coordinating with Quadripartite partners to support regional and global efforts on all issues related to One Health, food safety, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic diseases.
- Lead cooperation with China's national authorities on regional and global experience sharing drawing on China's experience of building up a nationwide public health system and emergency prevention, detection, and response capacities.
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as medicine, epidemiology, or public health.
- A minimum of ten years of work experience relevant to the position, including strengthening country capacities and response to outbreaks and/or other public health emergencies.
- Experience in managing a team and financial resources.
- Excellent written and spoken English is essential; working knowledge of Chinese is an advantage.
