Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Steward Engineer to join our team at Covestro. As a Data Steward Engineer, you will be responsible for managing data access and improving data quality, particularly master data in the areas of research & development, product management, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage data access and improve data quality, particularly master data in the areas of research & development, product management, and sustainability.
  • Be responsible for data integration, data management solutions, and data quality.
  • Analyze business/project requirements and identify relevant data and tools for data provisioning.
  • Be hands-on defining standards, designing data models, developing and supporting ingestion pipelines from data sources such as LIMS, Electronic Lab Notebook systems, etc.
  • Be part of the team that centrally administers R&D master data.
  • Support the development of information security concepts for new applications, especially for access management.
  • Identify and sustainably resolve data quality issues.
  • Take part in the establishment and leadership of the "R&D Data Community".
  • Regular review of data strategy and KPIs.
  • Description of data products in the data catalog.
  • Closely collaborate with colleagues from R&D, product management, and application development, accompanying and guiding them as they adopt new standards for data quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience, or Master's degree with 3-5 years of experience in the fields of computer science, chemistry, natural sciences, technology (STEM), or comparable.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in maintaining data stewardship and data engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Java).
  • Practical experience in data warehouse management based on an RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL).
  • Understanding of the basics of polymer chemistry to grasp and address the specific data-related requirements in this domain.
  • Understanding of R&D processes, for example through experience in a development environment or within a testing department.
  • Knowledge and experience in data governance principles, policies, and best practices, as well as data quality assessment and data lineage tracking.
  • IT affinity and expertise in handling various tools for master data maintenance and management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and support users.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services, such as AWS (preferred).
