Job Overview:

The Technical and Failure Investigation Department (TFI) at Lloyd's Register is dedicated to delivering exceptional advisory services for the analysis of failures and technical challenges faced by marine clients. Our mission is to conduct thorough engineering assessments and evaluations of systems and components, enabling marine operators to reduce operational downtime effectively.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of technical and failure investigations, including both vessel and on-site assessments.
  • Collaborate with our advanced materials and instrumentation laboratory to enhance investigation outcomes.
  • Provide technical support across various teams, including Risk Reliability, Human Factors, and Performance Design.
  • Prepare detailed analyses and formal reports, ensuring they meet client expectations and established standards.
  • Engage with clients to present findings and propose alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Manage project scopes and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client requirements and budgetary constraints.
  • Foster knowledge sharing within the team and mentor junior technical staff to enhance overall expertise.
  • Maintain compliance with internal procedures, industry standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Commit to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to stay abreast of industry advancements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physical sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in English, particularly in writing formal technical reports.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB for data analysis and processing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marine power plant machinery, including internal combustion engines and propulsion systems.
  • Experience in the installation and measurement of ship propulsion systems.
  • Ability to provide timely solutions for a diverse range of technical investigations in the marine and offshore sectors.
  • Willingness to travel for assignments, including work in shipyards or on vessels.
  • Driving license and knowledge of metallurgy are advantageous.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and vibration measurement is a plus.
