Job Overview:

The Machinery Consultant role at Lloyd's Register involves engaging with the Technical and Failure Investigation Department (TFI), a division dedicated to delivering premier advisory services focused on the analysis of failures and technical challenges faced by marine clients. Our mission is to assist marine operators in reducing operational downtime through thorough engineering assessments and evaluations of systems and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of technical and failure investigations, including on-site assessments and collaboration with our advanced materials and instrumentation laboratory.
  • Provide expert technical support to various teams, including Risk Reliability and Human Factors, ensuring deliverables meet established standards.
  • Prepare and present analytical reports and findings to both internal and external stakeholders, proposing alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Manage project scopes and proposals, aligning them with client expectations and internal procedures.
  • Evaluate the time and value of work for clients, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the team and mentor junior staff to enhance technical competencies.
  • Adhere to internal processes, industry standards, and legislative requirements while pursuing continuous professional development.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree in engineering or physical sciences from a recognized institution, or equivalent marine qualifications with relevant sea-going experience.
  • Proficiency in English, particularly in drafting formal technical reports.
  • Experience with MATLAB for data analysis and familiarity with marine power plant machinery.
  • Hands-on experience with ship propulsion systems and related measurement techniques.
  • Willingness to travel for assignments in various locations, including shipyards and vessels, with an expectation of significant time away from home.
