We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer II to join our New Technology team at HARMAN International. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for researching and developing advanced audio and acoustic algorithms for our consumer products, including soundbars, portable speakers, and headphones.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct independent acoustic algorithm research and collaborate with our interdisciplinary team to drive innovation and excellence in audio technology.
- Design and execute various audio algorithm design and acoustic simulation and validations to support our New Technology & Innovation process and Harman Consumer Audio Business Unit NPI projects.
- Practice new technology scouting and technical roadmap planning with an acoustic focus, maintaining effective communication within the team and with functional teams and Business Units.
- Lead a team to research new acoustic components or solutions to make Harman products unique, such as signal flow design, bass enhancement, directional sound source, immersive audio, and new material simulation.
- Work with global Harman research/engineering teams and external research institutes or universities to drive new technology innovation and applications.
- Combine traditional acoustic engineering with advanced DSP technology to push the acoustic performance envelope for Home Audio, Portable Audio, Headphone, and IoT products.
- Develop and build POC prototypes and demonstrate to internal stakeholders.
- Work with acoustic engineers for acoustic performance optimization and with DSP engineers for algorithm tuning and improvement.
- Submit a minimum of 4 technical patents in the US or Europe.
- MS or above degree in EE/CS/Acoustics, PhD preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in algorithm design supporting large-scale consumer audio business.
- Algorithm expert to lead/coach the team for new experience explorations, both in traditional signal processing design and AI and data-driven approaches.
- Proficient in acoustic theory, acoustic testing, acoustic simulation, and signal processing.
- Familiar with acoustic-related simulation and modeling techniques.
- Good experience in audio product development, such as soundbars, headphones, smart speakers, conference systems, and hearing aids.
- Good experience with audio tools, such as Klipple, Soundcheck, Comsal, etc.
- Experience in sound tuning and Golden ears.
- Good leadership and team management experience.
